About Seoul Art Space
Seoul Art Space has been established as a part of the overarching policy of
'culturenomics' which is Seoul's core strategy in achieving competitiveness as a
creative and cultural city.
Grassroots in nature and smaller in scale, Seoul Art Space has taken root in different
places of Seoul and aims to reach out to more people to make small but significant
differences in their everyday lives.
Seoul Art Space brings art to the citizens and to the city, thereby promoting open
communication among different artists and different genres of art as well as with the
people in the community by encouraging their participation in various arts programs.
In addition, Seoul Art Space delivers on the mission of bringing art, people, and the city
together by ensuring that the people in the local community have the opportunity to
access all information on the art programs and creative activities taking place in each
Art Space via the official web site.
Seoul Art Space is open to everyone both online and offline. The hope is that as many
people as possible will take up this opportunity to gain first hand experience of arts and
cultural activities, thus contributing to a cohesive and engaged community.
About Seoul Art Space_Hongeun, a center for visual and performing arts
Remodeled from an old government facility, Seoul Art Space_Hongeun was born on May
11, 2011 as a convergence art space connecting art, nature and human. Seoul Art
Space_Hongeun supports dancers who express a balance between nature and human
life. Furthermore, this space operates art and culture programs for the community.
The 2-story building accommodates dance practice studios, a book cafe, a seminar hall
and 12 resident artists' studios (include 1 for international resident artists' studio). This
eco-friendly art space supports for dancers and visual artists, and operates community
art and culture programs.

Programs for Community
*HAPPY(Hongeun Art & Perfomances Presentation for You)
A program that promotes citizens' cultural susceptibility and offers opportunities for
them to more closely enjoy ART, through resident artist exhibitions, open rehearsals,
Lohas music Concert at Book Cafe and other events.
*Community Program
-Community Dance : An exchange venue for artists and citizens through dancing.
Resident dancers and dancing groups develop and run public-participating programs to
create an art in everyday lives.
-Reform Program : An eco-progrma to recycle old and worn-out clothes into purses or
other accessories.
-Seasonal Program : Community Festival
International Resident Program
We have 1 resident studio for international artist. It is open wide for foreign visual
artists and dancers.
How to apply
: Fill out the application form(incl. resume, works, work plans and artistic plan during
resident period in Korea and etc...) and attach the portfolio and send to the general
manager of Hongeun.
Resident Period
: within 3 or 4 months (but flexible according work plans)
Resident Benefits
1. We offer one studio (incl. bed and some furniture), shower room, share kitchen,
dance practice studios, seminar room, book cafe. This means artist can stay in Hongeun
2. We don't offer budget directly, but if you participate our community program as a
teacher for citizen or hold your personal exhibition for Hongeun, we can offer materials
for teaching or exhibition process.
3. If you want to lead some community art with citizen or Korean resident artists, we
can make them together with your project and also advertise for your program with our
budget.
* we don' offer air fee and your perdiem during stays in Korea.
How to become a resident artist
Through the residence program, artists may stay in Seoul Art Space to better concentrate
on their creative works. This program is currently available at Geumcheon Idea Factory,
Sindang Creative Arcade, Yeonhui Literary Nest, Seongbuk Center for Creative Arts,
Hongeun Center for the Visual and Performing Arts and the Arts and Seoul Art Space for

How to rent Seoul Art Space
Through the rental program, artists may occupy Art Spaces to work in a more creative and
dedicated environment. This program is available at Seogyo Center for Experimental Arts,
Geumcheon Idea Factory, Mullae Art Factory, Seongbuk Center for Creative Arts, Hongeun
Center for the Environment and the Arts and Seoul Art Space for Disabled Artists Sindang
