ADVANCED PAINTING SYLLABUS
Class Materials Fee $10.00
Home materials that may be helpful for sketch book work and two long-term home
projects.
Digital Camera
Color Pencils
Markers
Glue Stick
Scissors
Sketch Pencil (regular #2 is fine)
Water Color Set and Brush
Black Sharpie Ultra Fine, Fine, and Medium tips
3-4 acrylic brushes (not required, but helpful)
acrylic paint (primary colors, white, black and raw umber brown (are fine, unless
you would like a more diverse set- again, not required but helpful)
tempera paint and medium (not required but helpful)
Outside of Class “Homework” or Art Room Work Requirement
For every 20 minutes spent in class, 20 minutes of outside work is expected. All
missed class time must be made-up as soon as possible and no more than two weeks after
absence. Sketch book requirements are included in this time. A summary of all time spent
is to be kept in sketch book lof. (As most weeks alternate two and then three meetings,
students are expected to work six hours and forty minutes every two weeks. (2 hours and
40 minutes plus 4 hours)
Projects (2.5 two- three week units per quarter and 1 at home substantial project)
Students find artist from each movement to share to class during the unit of study.
Sketch Book/Journal (These will be made in class.) Bring Sketch Book/Journal to class
everyday. Depending on outside work assigned, regular sketch book entries are expected
including: free sketches (equivalent of 20 thirty minute sketches by the end of the
semester), artist’s responses (done in conjunction with units of study- 7 total during the
semester), and a minimum of 20 collected art reproductions and responses for Student Art
Collection (one per week and this counts toward sketch book time).
