The Ohio State University / Military & Veterans Services and Office of Student Life VETERAN COMMUNITY ADVOCATE Veteran Community Advocates will be responsible for delivering programming and resources for the broader veteran population on their campus. Advocates will act as a liaison and connection point to Student-Veterans on campus and build relationships with campus departments. Advocates will facilitate offices learning about military & Veterans issues. Campus departments will provide mentorship, guidance, and leadership opportunities in diverse, inclusive environments, with the goal of developing the students holistically. Veteran Community Advocates are scholarship recipients and will serve in a one year term with the possibility of renewal. Position Description Serve as a leader to enhance the Veteran student experience at OSU through education, advocacy and involvement. Work closely and serve as a liaison between the campus departments, The Office of Military & Veterans Services, Student Life, Student-Veteran organizations, and our VA Vet Success on Campus program. Work with university constituents to enhance the environment and learning opportunities for all Student-Veterans on campus. Build community and foster relationships with Veteran students on campus. Aid in the transition process and assist in the acclimation of residents to the OSU community. Align with key university departments to help connect transitioning veterans to resources and involvement opportunities Aid veteran students to persist and succeed in academic pursuits Responsibilities Attend regular meetings with campus department liaison Attend the Fall Kick Off Meeting Attend regular Veteran Community Advocate meetings Fulfill a minimum set of programming requirements developed in concert with assigned campus departments (usually 5-10 hours a week) Attend Student-Veteran organizational meetings, Veterans social and sporting events as needed Represent the university Student-Veterans community at occasional events Minimum Requirements At least 1 year completed (By start of CA year) at the OSU campus applying for A minimum of a 2.5 cumulative GPA Selection Selected annually through an application and board process.
