I wish to submit the following report on the meeting conducted by the Racing Operator, the Gold Circle
Racing and Gaming Group, on Saturday 27th July 2013, at Kenilworth Racecourse.
PENETROMETER READING: 28
RAIL CONFIGURATION: Straight Course : The inside
rail has been moved out by 3m from the 1200m mark to the 400m mark. Round The Turn : “Winter
Course” : The rail is in its original position with a 2m spur at approximately the 450m mark.

All the riders that participated at today’s race meeting were required to submit their Medical Record Books to
the Clerk of Scales in accordance with Rule 25.3.1.
The Horse Identifier, Mrs Lisa Greyvenstein, checked the Identity Documents of all the horses engaged for
today’s race meeting, and their markings were found to correspond with their passports.
The plates fitted to all the runners engaged for today’s race meeting were checked by the Course Farrier, Mr
Victor Hawton, and were found to conform to the rules.

Jockeys W Agrella and V Morake were stood down before the start of the race meeting on medical grounds.
They were replaced on all their rides. (Rule 25.12 does not apply)

THE STARTER REPORTED
a)
MISS JAMIE (J Andrews) was restless in the stalls, flyjumped losing one length and thereafter was
slow into stride. Trainer J Snaith will be advised to reschool this filly before her next engagement.
b)
SNOW ON CEDARS (J Qwenza) was restless in the stalls, jumped awkwardly and was slow losing
four lengths.
c)
BABETTE’S CHARM (A Ndzongo) was fractious and jumped awkwardly outwards. Trainer M
Stewart will be advised to reschool this filly before her next engagement.
d)
LIWA (E Paca) jumped awkwardly losing two lengths and thereafter was slow into stride.
THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED
a)
Steady rain fell prior to and during this race.
b)
Work Rider M Maswazi replaced Work Rider X Tshayisa on BEDEFAY. Work Rider X Tshayisa
signed an Admission of Guilt for the contravention of Rule 55.4 in that he, as the rider of BEDEFAY,
failed to weigh out at the carded weight confirmed in his engagement, resulting in a change of rider.
He was suspended from riding in one Work Riders’ race.
c)
Work Rider M Jevu signed an Admission of Guilt for the contravention of Rule 58.10.2 (Guidelines C
& M; Appendix L) in that he, as the rider of EVENING ROSE, misused his crop by hitting this filly
more than three times on consecutive strides and with excessive frequency in the closing stages. He
was suspended from riding in two Work Riders’ races.
d)
Work Rider L Nhose signed an Admission of Guilt for the contravention of Rule 58.10.2 (Guideline M;
Appendix L) in that he, as the rider of TROPICAL GIANT, misused his crop by hitting this filly with
excessive frequency. He was suspended from riding in one Work Riders’ race.
e)
Work Rider J Arendse, the rider of HAILI, dropped his crop at about the 450m.
f)
Work Rider J Qwenza, the rider of SNOW ON CEDARS, lost his right stirrup iron as the start was
effected which he regained shortly thereafter.
g)
AMBER HEARD (W Bambiso), the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis.

rode in an unprofessional manner on HURRICANE WIND by dropping his crop at about the 250m.
He was fined R250,00.
d)
In view of the performance from PRINCESS AURA (G Schlechter) (31.15 lengths), the Veterinary
Surgeon was requested to examine this filly on her return to the unsaddling enclosure.
e)
Jockey R Khathi, the rider of ZACHARIAS, reported that his saddle slipped back slightly in running.
f)
CRUZWITHMECAPTAIN (G van Niekerk), the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for
analysis. Assistant Trainer N Kotzen, acting on behalf of Trainer G Kotzen, was advised. (W Mroro)

Heavy rain fell prior to and during this race.

A protest was lodged after the running of this race by the Jockeys about continuing to race and a
panel was formed in terms of Rule 5.2.3. After taking evidence from two jockey representatives and
two trainer representatives, the panel was of the opinion that it was unsafe to continue the race
meeting due to surface water on the race track, dangerous going and poor visibility. The rest of the
race meeting was therefore abandoned.
c)
