STUDENT ORIENTATION FOR FINDING A JOB AT GONZAGA
Greetings from Gonzaga! It won’t be long before summer is over and you
will be heading to campus. For many of you finding a job is a priority so
we wanted you to have information well in advance to help make the
search a little easier. The key to finding a job is to begin early, be
persistent and not be too picky. Once you are here, you may have more
job opportunities in the future.
Please read through this email to find the information that applies
best to your circumstances.
As always, if you have additional questions, please contact us directly
(guevara@gonzaga.edu or 509-313-6587).
There is no universal job application for on-campus jobs. Students
must contact departments directly about job openings.
TYPES OF WORK
Federal Work Study (FWS) are jobs on campus funded by the federal
government. Eligibility is determined by the FAFSA.
State Work Study (SWS) are jobs off campus available to Washington
State residents only. Eligibility is determined by the FAFSA.
Institutional jobs are jobs on campus funded by each department open to
any student.
The Community Job Board lists various off-campus, part-time jobs in the
Spokane community.

Cataldo Hall to meet with departments about jobs.

begin your job search early.

 The SWS jobs list will be on line the week of August 8th at
www.gonzaga.edu/studentemployment.

Institutional Jobs








These are on-campus jobs, open to any student, funded by each department.
Institutional jobs go quickly so early job search and follow through are
extremely important.
The department determines the students they hire, and hire mostly from the
students currently in their department. This can make it difficult for incoming
students to find a job.
You are encouraged to be diligent with your job search and follow-through,
taking the first job you can find. Once you’ve been on campus for a year,
finding an Institutional job can become easier.
The Institutional jobs list will be available August 15 and can be sent to
students upon request.
Attend the Student Employment Job Fair on Monday, August 29 from 12-2pm in
Cataldo Hall to meet with departments about possible jobs.
After school begins, check with our office for the updated Institutional jobs list.
International students can only work on campus in an Institutional job.
The Community Job Board
The Community Job Board lists part-time jobs posted by individuals and businesses in
the Spokane community. There are new postings almost daily so you are encouraged
to review this resource frequently. The Community Job Board can be accessed at
www.gonzaga.edu/studentemployment.
