William L. Scheffler
Ann Elizabeth Sheffler
William L. Scheffler is a retired attorney
whose practice included pro bono contributions to the
community in the areas of government and service
organizations and commercial real estate development
and management.He was a member of the Westport
(CT) Representative Town Meeting from 1993 to
2005, and was chair of the Planning and Zoning
Committee of the RTM. He also served on the Board
and the Executive Committee of the South Western
Regional Planning Agency. Mr. Scheffler previously
served as Chair of the Westport Zoning Board of
Appeals, and as President of the boards of the Family
Center Affiliated Services of Westport-Weston and the
Westport Education Foundation. He currently serves
on the board of the Westport Weston Foundation and
the Secretary of the State’s Citizenship Fund. He has
served on the board of directors of the Westport
Chamber of Commerce, the Fairfield County
Agricultural Extension Service, and the Aspetuck
Land Trust. He is a past President of the Westport
Rotary Club. Mr. Scheffler graduated from Bucknell
University in 1970 and received his J.D. degree from
Syracuse University College of Law in 1974. He is a
member of the bars of Connecticut, New York,
various Federal District Courts and the U.S. Supreme
Court. He is the author of two books based on his
collection of historical postcards (Westport/Weston
and Big Moose Lake in upstate New York) and also
has an extensive collection of presidential autographs,
historic maps, and political and local memorabilia. He
has a small business dedicated to buying and selling
vintage automobiles and is the co-founder and
Chairman of the Fairfield County Concours
d’Elegance, a classic car show held each year in
September. He is married to Ann E. Sheffer (whom he
met in 10th grade at Staples High School) and has two
children: Elizabeth (23) and Annie (18).
Ann Sheffer is an arts advocate and patron
from Westport, CT. She is currently an
appointed member of the CT Commission
on Culture and Tourism and a board
member of Americans for the Arts, the
nation’s leading nonprofit organization for
advancing the arts, and Chair of its Arts
Action Fund. From 1993-2005, Ms. Sheffer
was an elected member of the Westport
Representative Town Meeting, and Chair of
the Library, Museum, and Arts Committee.
From 1993-2000, she was a member of the
President’s Committee on the Arts and
Humanities. She has served as a board
member of the Fairfield County Community
Foundation, the Westport Country
Playhouse, and the Westport Historical
Society and currently serves on Advisory
Committees for each.
Ms. Sheffer is the Secretary/Treasurer of the
Betty R. and Ralph Sheffer Foundation, a
family foundation devoted to the arts,
education, and community care.
She has an AB from Smith College in
Theatre, an MA in Arts Administration from
Tufts University, and an MBA from the
University of Washington
