EDITORS’ PENS RUN OUT OF INK
After seven years of editing the Daybreak Herald
Peter and Jenny are now hanging up their pens.
They have received awards for their editing style as
well as their jokes. Their wonderful skills,
dedication, discipline, patience, understanding and
most important of all sense of humour (essential
requirement) in producing the bulletin are very
much appreciated. Our club members say ‘THANK
YOU’.
You are a hard act to follow and your true Rotarian
spirit in putting service above self over the last
seven years is an inspiration to us all.
FROM PRESIDENT JOHN
Congratulations to Bev for this first edition of the
new look club bulletin. The move to an electronic
bulletin will enable all club members to receive
advance notices of duties and events so that our
meetings run like a well-oiled jet engine. One of the
advantages of an electronic club bulletin is that it
can be broadcast to a much wider audience than a
paper edition. We would welcome your suggestions
of people you feel should also be added to our
distribution list.
Those of us who attended the Rotary International
Convention were reminded that Rotary is much
larger than the boundaries of our own club and
district. It was very inspiring to meet with Rotarians
from many places and countries and to witness the
power of this international family, which is doing so
much good within the world.
We will certainly be doing our best to uphold the
principles and aims of Rotary and to make our
community a better place in which to live.

Elaine Norman entertained us with a history of her youth in a less populated but buoyant Coffs
Harbour jetty area. Later she contrasted country life with Sydney’s western suburbs before returning
to her roots and ‘alma mater’ at Coffs Harbour
Guest Speaker
In the absence of a guest speaker Marilyn Brien from Professional Development Services presented an
excerpt from a program ‘Above & Below the Line Behaviour’ aimed at improving workplace interaction.
Twelfth Annual Changeover Dinner
Our changeover dinner got off to a good start with John Clark (JC) beginning with the Call to Order
and looking dapper in his formal attire, however things started to go down hill rather rapidly with Allan
Burrow tripping over seats and dropping the mic before he could even utter a word to welcome guests
or was it the bad eyesight or alcohol? Then of course Jack Moffit piped up and said he has a big
mouth and doesn’t need a microphone! Peter Johnson did the Toast to Rotary and reminded us how
Rotary started and why we have the Paul Harris Fellow award. It was certainly the Johnson show –
Garry, Norma, Peter, Jenny (looking gorgeous in that red outfit with the seductive split!). 100%
attendance went to Kathleen Callinan and John Clark (3 yrs in a row). Time to get a life JC! It was
JC’s night for awards – he also scooped the Paul Harris Fellow. Not bad for someone who started
going to Rotary meetings in Sydney on a Monday night ‘for something to do’. Congratulations JC (also
known as he who walks on water). After starting the year with a ‘smashing start’ President Sjann
handed over the reins to John Townsend and left us with a small sachet of seeds to grow beautiful
flowers and to continue to ‘Sow the Seeds of Love”. JT accepted his new role with great enthusiasm
and gave mention to Alan Haliday (we thought Alan was cooking the books not scoffing the wine!)
and that JC is our first Vice President. JT welcomed his new Board and even presented satchels to
the directors. President John said our club is a youthful lot (does that mean full of hormones) and
motivated. He mentioned the objectives of Rotary are to give back to the community, fellowship and
camaraderie and that Rotary is a grass roots organisation promoting service above self. To finish off
chocolate cake and sparklers arrived for the birthday girl Kathleen and a good time was had by all.

Jumping to conclusions…
Single black female seeks male companionship, ethnicity unimportant. I am a very goodlooking girl who loves to play. I love long walks in the bush, riding in your 4x4, hunting,
camping and fishing trips. Cozy winter nights lying by the fire and candlelight dinners will
have me eating out of your hand. I’ll be at the front door when you get home from work,
wearing only what nature gave me. Cuddle me and I’m yours. Call xxxxx-xxx and ask for
Daisy. Hundreds of men found themselves talking to the RSPCA about an eight week-old
black Labrador retriever puppy.
