A Juried Exhibition of Collegiate Student Art

Eric Botbyl is a full time studio potter. He graduated from Union University in
2001 with a BA in Ceramics and has been working with clay ever since. In
addition to exhibiting his work, he has written articles for Ceramics Monthly and
Number Magazine, taught workshops at numerous universities and art centers,
and opened his own studio for community clay classes. In 2008 Eric and his wife,
Jill, opened the Companion Gallery in Humboldt, TN where they now represent
over a dozen artists.

Eligibility:
The Artists of the 21st Century exhibition is open to all undergraduate art
students enrolled in a visual arts program in the following states: Alabama,
Arkansas, Georgia, Kentucky, Mississippi, Missouri, North Carolina, Virginia, and
Tennessee. Work entered must have been produced during the student’s
undergraduate enrollment period and must have been created solely by the
artist. Media may include: painting, drawing, sculpture, glass, ceramics,
photography, printmaking, digital art, fiber art, mixed media, and jewelry. 2D
works must be framed ready to hang from the art centers installed hanging
system, which means nails or screws cannot be driven into the art center walls.
Works requiring electricity or additional hanging structures should not be
submitted and cannot be exhibited. Large sculptures must be self-installed by the
artist and the definition of “large” in this case is left to the discretion of the
exhibition planners. The actual weight of any 3D work cannot exceed 200 lbs.
The WTRAC has a “no nudes policy”. Artists can either submit slides or digital
images to enter the competition.

All forms, slides or digital images, and fees must be received by February 15,
2014 in the University of Tennessee at Martin Fine Arts Office. All selected
artists will be notified as soon as possible with specific exhibit and shipping
information. The committee will leave up to two messages or emails to selected
artists about inclusion and shipping or delivery details. Artists who do not
respond in two to three days will be removed from the exhibition and alternate
selections will be contacted. Cell phone numbers only have proven to be
problematic because of screening numbers and not checking messages. Works
juried into the exhibition must arrive at the WTRAC in Humboldt, Tennessee by 3
p.m. on March 24, 2014 ready to hang.
Entry Fee and Procedure:
1. Slide or digital file submission: One, two, or three 35mm color slides (not glass
mounted) will be accepted. Slides must be in a plastic slide sheet and must
include the following information: Indicate top of slide, medium, size, date of
completion, and title of work. Include a self-addressed stamped envelope for
return of slides.
Digital file submissions can only be submitted as email attachments to the
following email address. “artist@utm.edu“ All files must be in the .jpg or .jpeg file
format. All digital files should be at least 400 pixels in the smallest dimension and
no larger than 800 pixels in the largest dimension. All digital files should be
smaller than 5 MB in size. No .gifs or .png files will be accepted. Digital files on
physical media will not be accepted. Each email should include the medium,
framed size, date of completion, and title of work in the text area of the message,
name and entry in subject line. Sending an email with images does not constitute
an official entry; entry form and fees still have to be mailed to Department of
Visual and Theatre Arts office.
2. Send entry form, slides, SASE, and a non-refundable $ 20 entry fee by
personal or cashier’s check or money order payable to: UTM
