St. Catharine College is an independent, coeducational college and is committed to the free

approval from the Kentucky Board of Nursing and is accredited by the Accreditation
Commission For Education in Nursing, INC.(formerly National League for Nursing
Accrediting Commission).
What is an Associate Degree in
Nursing (ADN)?
Nursing programs that require approximately two years of full time study in the nursing
major. At SCC a student completes 72 college credit hours to earn an Associate Degree in
Nursing.
How long will it take to complete The nursing major may be completed in two years. However, there are pre-requisite
courses that must be completed prior to entering the nursing major.

How do I become a registered
nurse (RN)?
Graduates of an approved program take the licensing examination for registered nurses.
Upon passing this NCLEX-RN examination and meeting other state requirements,
graduates are eligible to apply for licensure by the Kentucky Board of Nursing and
comparable agencies in other states for use of the title registered nurse (RN).
What courses do I need before
entering the nursing major?
Academic courses are indicated on the nursing curriculum plan of study provided on the
reverse side. Credit hours are reflected in parenthesis.
Where do I complete my clinical
nursing experiences?
In order to provide a well balanced clinical experience, health care agencies across central
Kentucky are used for nursing experiences. Agencies include Baptist Hospital East,
Central State Hospital, Flaget Memorial, Hardin Memorial Hospital, Norton Health Care,
Sansbury Care Center, and SpringView.
How often are classes admitted?
A nursing class is admitted each fall. The application deadline for fall admission is April 1.
Selection criteria include GPA and Admission HESI Exam scores.

What do I need to do to be
successful in the program?
Nursing is a demanding program of study. The majority of nursing courses include
classroom, laboratory and clinical experiences and range from 12-18 hours per week of
time. Approximately three hours of study per credit hour is recommended each week.
The ability to prioritize, organize one’s time and have good study habits are critical
outcomes.
Is there a PN bridge program?
No. Practical Nurses are eligible for advanced placement into the second semester of the
ADN Program.

ADMISSION PROCEDURE AND CRITERIA
STEP 1:
Submit to the SCC Admission’s Department:
1. Completed St Catharine College admission form; a non-refundable fee is required.
2. An official high school transcript or official GED scores.
3. Official transcripts from each college/university previously attended.
4. Complete all other admission requirements as requested by St. Catharine College.

The student must have at least a C or better in all pre-requisite courses.
The student must have a minimal cumulative GPA of 2.75. The cumulative GPA is calculated only on pre-requisite course grades
required by the Department of Nursing for admission.
Students may repeat one of the two Anatomy & Physiology courses (BIO 204 or 205) one time only to be considered for
admission.
All pre-requisite courses must be completed by May 31 for fall admission cycle and October 15 for spring admission cycle.
Individuals are encouraged to meet with the Health Sciences pre-nursing adviser to develop a pre-nursing academic plan. For
individuals who seek to transfer credit, the Registrar at St. Catharine College will determine if transfer courses meet course
descriptions.

Attend a mandatory Preadmission Conference. Preadmission Conferences will be held in August, September, October, January,
February, and March. Dates and times TBA.
Schedule to take the Admission HESI examination. The Admission HESI exam will be given in January, February, March,
August, September, and October. Dates and times TBA. Admission HESI scores are evaluated as part of the selection process.
A fee is due when the exam is scheduled. The exam may be scheduled by contacting the Department of Nursing.
Complete an ADN Program application and return it to the Nursing Office. Applications can be found at sccky.edu or in the
Nursing Office. Applications are due April 1 for fall admission and November 1 for spring admission.

A student must achieve a minimal score of 80 % on the Assessment Cumulative Score on the HESI Exam.
A student may take the HESI exam only one time every 6 months.
Admission will be granted to students based on the Assessment Cumulative Score on the HESI Exam. The students with the
highest Assessment Cumulative Scores will be granted admission to the program.
In the event of a tie on the Assessment Cumulative Score; ties will be broken based upon the Prerequisite GPA.
The number of students admitted each admission cycle will be based upon faculty and clinical site availability.

Submit Physical Examination form, including documentation of immunization, and TB skin test.
Provide verification of current Healthcare Provider CPR certification.
Provide verification of SRNA certification.
Submit to background check and drug screening.
The Kentucky Board of Nursing shall have the authority to deny access to completing the RN licensure examination to anyone
who has been convicted of a felony or misdemeanor.
Attend program mandatory acceptance meeting. Students will be assisted to register for semester one nursing courses during the
acceptance meeting.
