In line with this commitment, DRWF review and update all information leaflets as necessary to ensure they are fit for purpose. Education is considered a fundamental part of diabetes care, the ultimate aim of which is to improve: control of vascular risk factors, including blood glucose, blood lipids and blood pressure reduce the risk of associated complications management of complications, if and when they develop quality of life Our aim is to help you to make informed decisions about your health and care; to that end DRWF offer healthcare information that can be confidently used and is: Trustworthy Accurate Accessible Reliable Balanced User-focused Around a third of men with diabetes can experience some form of erectile dysfunction. This increases to as many as half of men with diabetes who are over the age of 60. Good self-care and good medical care will help to avoid complications causing damage in the body. 1 A survey of 240 adults with type 1 diabetes visiting an outpatient diabetes clinic found that sexual dysfunction was reported by 27% of women and 22% of men. 2 The purpose of DRWF’s patient information leaflet ‘Sexual Dysfunction and DIABETES in Men’ is to: Help improve understanding of how diabetes (whether type 1 or type 2) can affect aspects of human sexuality. Facilitate understanding of what treatments are appropriate Encourage pro-active and pre-emptive self-care strategies as well as aiding in the management of specific sexual problems through an understanding that sexual health should be an integral part of the care of people with diabetes Our hope is to accomplish this by providing this leaflet in an easily accessible, motivational format.
