USER FEEDBACK
DRWF PATIENT INFORMATION LEAFLETS
SEXUAL DYSFUNCTION AND DIABETES IN MEN
The Diabetes Research & Wellness Foundation (DRWF) is committed to providing quality and
relevant patient information for all people with diabetes. In line with this commitment, DRWF
review and update all information leaflets as necessary to ensure they are fit for purpose.
Education is considered a fundamental part of diabetes care, the ultimate aim of which is to
improve:




control of vascular risk factors, including blood glucose, blood lipids and blood pressure
reduce the risk of associated complications
management of complications, if and when they develop
quality of life
Our aim is to help you to make informed decisions about your health and care; to that end DRWF
offer healthcare information that can be confidently used and is:






Trustworthy
Accurate
Accessible
Reliable
Balanced
User-focused
Around a third of men with diabetes can experience some form of erectile dysfunction. This
increases to as many as half of men with diabetes who are over the age of 60. Good self-care
and good medical care will help to avoid complications causing damage in the body. 1
A survey of 240 adults with type 1 diabetes visiting an outpatient diabetes clinic found that sexual
dysfunction was reported by 27% of women and 22% of men. 2
The purpose of DRWF’s patient information leaflet ‘Sexual Dysfunction and DIABETES in Men’
is to:



Help improve understanding of how diabetes (whether type 1 or type 2) can affect aspects
of human sexuality.
Facilitate understanding of what treatments are appropriate
Encourage pro-active and pre-emptive self-care strategies as well as aiding in the
management of specific sexual problems through an understanding that sexual health
should be an integral part of the care of people with diabetes
Our hope is to accomplish this by providing this leaflet in an easily accessible, motivational
format. To this end, it is vital to DRWF to know that this leaflet is fit for purpose and we would be
grateful for your feedback. Thank you.
