MR. THOMAS PECK
At the hospital on Wednesday morning, there passed away an old and highly
respected resident of Grenfell, a man of a free and open character, who valued the
gifts of nature before those of fortune. We refer to the late Mr. Thomas Peck. Arriving
from New Zealand, where he belonged to the Mounted Police, deceased joined up
with Mr. Meldrum's surveying team, and afterwards going to Eualdrie Station, and
later on joining Mr. Meldrum again. The remainder of his life was spent in town. He
was married twice; his second wife being formerly Miss Berry, and to her goes out the
sympathy of very many friends. Lieut. Colonel Peck, D.S.O, C.M.G., had the honour
of being a son by the first marriage, and the late gentleman was very grieved at not
seeing his son again prior to the latter going to India to take up an important position.
The funeral was on Wednesday, the Rev. A.F. Crapp officiating.

FATAL ACCIDENT AT BUNGENDORE.
A FATAL gun accident occurred yesterday afternoon to a lad named Yeadon, twelve
years of age, son of Mr. John Yeadon, Gidleigh, Bungendore. It appears the lad was
crossing a log fence some distance from home. He leaned the gun against the fence,
and in reaching over for the gun is supposed to have caught the trigger on one of the
logs,
exploding the charge, which shattered the arm from wrist to elbow. Doctors Hughes
and Blackall were sent for and amputated the arm this morning, but the lad died some
ten minutes afterwards. Great sympathy is expressed for the parents in their sad
bereavement.

GOULBURN AND THE WAR AN ORIGINAL ANZAC.
Private Percy Yeadon, A.L.C., only son of Mr. John Yeadon, of Union-street, North
Goulburn, returned to Goulburn on Friday after four and a half years service with the
A.I.F. (As reported elsewhere, his mother died on Sunday morning.) Private Yeadon
left Australia in October, 1914, and went to Egypt, whence he was transferred to
Gallipoli, taking part in the historic landing. After going through the campaign in the
Peninsula he was in March, 1916, sent to France. He was present at many of the
principal engagements there. Though he escaped being wounded or gassed, he was
attacked by enteric fever and dysentery. He had the former in a very severe form, and
his life was despaired of. On recovering he was put on convalescent duty, and
subsequently his work alternated between France and England. Before enlistment,
Pte. Yeadon was an attendant at Kenmore Hospital. Deep sympathy will be felt for the
young fellow in the tragic circumstances as sociated with his return
