Caughman Harman Funeral Home: The Meetze House ( 1850) 503 North Lake Dr. One of the last houses built in Lexington before the Civil War. It was the home of John Henry and Martha Carolina Kaminer Meetze. Union soldiers set fire to the house in 1865, but the Meetze’s slaves begged for the house not to be burned. The only food left was bread concealed beneath the cover of the Meetze baby lying in a crib.
