This document summarizes information on available funding. CIHR, NSERC All students who do not hold external awards and are eligible, must apply for a doctoral research award or a master’s award in Sept/ Oct 2012. It’s advisable to start preparing the application in the summer; talk to your supervisor about this. If, in October 2012, you have been registered for more than 22 months as a full time student in the PhD program, or have been registered for more than 10 months as a full time student in the master’s program, you are not eligible to apply to CIHR. International students are not eligible for scholarships from these agencies. UBC Funding consists of: 1. Graduate Student Initiative (GSI) for master’s and PhD students 2. Four Year Fellowships (FYFs) for PhD students 3. Rehab Sciences PhD Scholarship (information on the website) 1. Graduate Student Initiative (GSI) All domestic and international students who are registered full-time in PhD, research-based master’s degrees may be eligible for the Graduate Support Initiative funding within their Faculty. Each Faculty (and/or their respective Graduate Programs) establishes and publishes the particular criteria by which the GSI funds will be allocated after prior endorsement from the Faculty of Graduate Studies. GSI Funding Priorities ( last updated April, 2011) Priority will be given to: MSc students who by July 1, 2012 have been in the program less than 2 years. PhD students who by July 1, 2012 have been in the program less than 3 years. MSc and PhD students who have received more than $15,000 in scholarship money between July 1, 2011 and September 1, 2012 will not be eligible for GSI funding. 2. Four-Year Fellowships (FYFs) FYFs will provide four years (maximum) of funding for top ranked commencing PhD students (domestic & international). They will comprise $16K plus tuition fees. If unsuccessful they must reapply in subsequent years. International FYF recipients must also enter the ranking exercise for those scholarships for which they are eligible, as part of the accountability process. 3. Rehab Sciences PhD scholarship We have a new Rehab Sciences PhD Scholarship (information posted on the website) which will provide $10,000 per year for 4 years to outstanding PhD students. There is 1 competition with the deadline date of February, 2013. Arthritis Society Vancouver Branch Scholarship (04124) For MPT 1, MPT2, MSc and PHD students This award is not offered in 2012-13 A $375 scholarship has been endowed by the Vancouver Branch of The Arthritis Society, B.C. & Yukon Division. The award is offered to a student in the Department of Physical Therapy interested in clinical research in Rheumatology or to a student completing an MSc or PhD in Rehabilitation Sciences who has a Physical Therapy focus to their research. The award is offered to a graduate student in Occupational Therapy University of BC Rehabilitation Sciences Alumni Jane Hudson Scholarship(04899) For MSc or PhD students with PT Focus A $1,950 (the amount is approximate and may be subject to change) scholarship has been endowed by alumni and friends in honour of W. Jane Hudson, a founding member of the School of Rehabilitation Sciences. The award is offered to a graduate student in Physical Therapy Arthritis Society Vancouver Community Group James Kwan Scholarship (04126) For MPT1, MPT2, MSc and PhD students This award is not offered in 2012-13 A $100 scholarship has been endowed by the Vancouver Community Group of The Arthritis Society, B.C. & Yukon Division for a student in the Department of Physical Therapy who is interested in clinical research in Rheumatology or to a student completing an MSc or PhD in Rehabilitation Sciences who has a physical therapy focus to their research. Marpole Women’s Auxiliary Scholarship in Rehabilitation Sciences (4125) For MOT, MSc and PhD students This award has been allocated for 2012-13 A scholarship of $3000 is offered by the Marpole Women’s Auxiliary of the George Pearson Centre and the GF Strong Rehab Centre for a student in the Master of Occupational Therapy Program or to a student completing an MSc or PhD in Rehabilitation Sciences who has an occupational therapy focus to their research. Louise McGregor Memorial Scholarship in Neurorehabilitation (4132) For MSc and PhD students Scholarships totaling $800 (the amount is approximate and may be subject to change) have been endowed in memory of Louise McGregor, former faculty member in the School of Rehabilitation Sciences, for MSc and PhD students conducting research in the area of Neurorehabilitation within the Faculty of Medicine.
