SEAoO Education Awards - 2015
SEAoO is pleased to offer three $1000 Educational Awards for Essays or Project Reports on a
structural engineering topic by qualified undergraduate students in Ohio who demonstrate interest in
pursuing a career in Structural Engineering. Entries must be submitted by May 31st. Education Award
recipients will be announced July 1st. Awards will be presented during the SEAoO Annual Conference
in Columbus on September 10, 2015. An editable application form is online at www.SEAoO.org,

Criteria for Applicants:
 Enrolled in Civil Engineering curriculum at a university in Ohio certified by the Accreditation
Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET), list of qualifying schools in Appendix A.
 Will be registered as a pre-junior, junior or senior in fall 2015.
 Currently plans to serve the Structural Engineering profession.
 Demonstrated leadership ability and character attributes.
Essay or Project Report:
Essay option: Research and write an Essay on a current structural engineering topic.
Project Report option: Research and write a Report for a structural engineering Project that you
have firsthand knowledge of through your coursework, research project, or with your employer.
Reports need to be written with permission of your supervisor or sponsor.
 Topic (focus on one): Education, Materials, Design, or Construction.
 Bibliography (short form) with 4 to 6 references including:
– At least one published Engineering Journal.
– One interview with a Professional Engineer or Professor.
 Typed, 1,500 words max. Paper with any figures, photos and appendices not to exceed 7 pages.
Submit complete paper in a single pdf, 8 ½ x 11 format. Submit application in a separate pdf.
 You are writing to an audience of practicing structural engineers. Your paper may be printed in
the Structural Engineers Association of Ohio’s newsletter and/or posted on our website.
 Papers must be well written. Proof read your paper for grammar and correct all typos.
Evaluation and Selection:
 Papers will be judged on technical merit, effective communication, subject relevance,
organization and effort.
 SEAoO reserves the right to select award winners at its discretion.
