DiVincenzo, Jr. congratulated 23 Essex County artists who received awards in the 31st Annual Essex County Senior Art Show. The artists were recognized during an awards ceremony on Friday, June 6th at the Essex County Environmental Center in Roseland. “I congratulate the winners and all the artists who participated in this year’s Senior Art Show. The talent displayed by our senior artists is truly amazing and the artwork is inspiring,” DiVincenzo said. “Essex County has a thriving fine arts community and our Senior Art Show enables our older residents, both professionals and non-professionals, to display their original creations where everyone can see them. This is an excellent event for us to promote the arts and inspire our residents to use their talents,” he added. Artists, and the awards they received, are as follows: Bloomfield Louis Giordano received first place in the non-professional drawing category for his work titled “What a Noble Face.” Jean Mackenzie-Atherton received an honorable mention in the professional watercolor category for her work titled “Fisherman’s Shack.” Caldwell Donald Hults received second place in the non-professional photography category for his work titled “The Good Book.” Fran MacLeod received second place in the professional watercolor category for her work titled “One Tired Mouseketeer.” Essex Fells Marion Franks received second place in the non-professional watercolor category for her work titled “Red Onions.” Livingston Carol LaFrancis received second place in the non-professional oil category for her work titled “The Secret Pond.” John Wolff received first place in the non-professional watercolor category for his work titled “Wistful Thinking.” North Caldwell Phyllis Huggett received first place in the professional mixed media category for her work titled “Forbidden Fruit.” She also received first place in the professional pastel category for her work titled “Old World.” Carolina Medina received first place in the professional acrylic category for her work titled “Apples, Limes, and Eucalyptus.” Roseland Ed Hill received first place in the non-professional pastel category for his work titled “Dressed for Summer.” Joseph Mango received an honorable mention in the non-professional acrylic category for his work titled “Sleepy French Village.” Ted Saponara received first place in the non-professional oil category for his work titled “Brokenhearted.” Short Hills Bill Glasofer received first place in the non-professional digital imagery category for his work titled “Garden Bench.” He also received an honorable mention in the nonprofessional photography category for his work titled “Windmill.” Wen-Hsien Wu received second place in the non-professional acrylic category for his work titled “Rothenburg, Germany.” South Orange Edward Hoffner received first place in the non-professional acrylic category for his work titled “Strolling.” Sheila Sugerman received second place in the professional pastel category for her work titled “My Rocky Mountain High.” Verona Catherine Luzzi received second place in the professional acrylic category for her work titled “House on Pelican Way.” Allen Taylor received first place in the professional watercolor category for his work titled “Steel Cathedral, Bethlehem II.” West Orange Sara Gelfond received first place in the non-professional mixed media category for her work titled “Chinese Pot of Orchids.” Gertrude Isaacs received second place in the non-professional pastel category for her work titled “Into the Forest.” Howard Knauer received first place in the non-professional photography category for his work titled “The Challenge.” He also received second place in the non-professional digital imagery category for his work titled “Balloon Fantasies.” Seema Tepper received second place in the non-professional craft category for her work titled “CityScape.” Walt Wanner received first place in the non-professional sculpture category for his work titled “Nor Any Drop to Drink.” Artists who received first place awards are eligible to have their artwork entered into the New Jersey State Senior Art Exhibit, which will be held this fall. The Essex County Senior Art Show and Exhibit was open to all professional and non-professional artists ages 60 and older. Art work was judged on originality, composition, style, and quality and creativity. The Essex County Park System was created in 1895 and is the first county park system established in the United States. The Park System consists of more than 6,000 acres and has 18 parks, five reservations, an environmental center, a zoo, ice skating rink, roller skating rink, three public golf courses, golf driving range, three off-leash dog facilities and a castle. ###
