No: Date of Issue: Issue: Page: AAT/J 005 31/01/2012 2 1 of 4 JOB DESCRIPTION TITLE: Resuscitation Training Officer RESPONSIBLE FOR: On-going Resuscitation Training for Medical, Nursing and Allied Professionals ACCOUNTABLE TO: Director of Academic Affairs & Training & Deputy Director of Medical Education JOB DESCRIPTION: 1.0 2.0 JOB SUMMARY: 1.1 The Resuscitation Training Officer is overall accountable and responsible for the assessment, planning and implementation of training to meet the needs of all Clinical Staff in order to facilitate optimal care during any Code Blue situation and will audit activities based on sound methodology. 1.2 The RTO is a part of the “Code Blue Response Team” as an observer/advisor and will provide de-briefing after codes as appropriate. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 2.1 Plans, organizes delivers, supervises and evaluation BLS/ACLS provider course using the American Heart Association guidelines. 2.2 Liaise with the Saudi Heart Association/American Heart Association providing monthly, quarterly and yearly statistics of training undertaken by hospital staff. 2.3 Provides information on Resuscitation courses at other hospital within the Kingdom (ACLS Instruction/PALS Provider/PALS Instructor/Neonatal Resuscitation). 2.4 In coordination with the Training Center seek to facilitate the SHA Heartsaver course for non-healthcare staff in English and Arabic where circumstances allow. 2.5 Plans and organize Code Blue Committee meetings with the designated Nurse Educator. 2.6 Participates in Disaster Plan Activities and attends Disaster Planning Committee Meetings. No: Date of Issue: Issue: Page: AAT/J 005 31/01/2012 2 2 of 4 Resuscitation Training Officer JOB DESCRIPTION: (Cont’d.) 2.7 Responsible for analyzing and preparing Code Blue Audit Findings. 2.8 Informs relevant Heads of Department and Code Blue Committee of Audit Findings. 2.9 Responsible for preparing audit findings (Code Blue Audit, Resuscitation Audits as required) for presentation to the relevant Heads of the Department and Code Blue Committee. 2.10 Exercises and demonstrates effective leadership and management skills in relation to the role of Resuscitation Training Officer at all times. 2.11 Performs training needs analysis minimally yearly and seeks to provide resuscitation training in clinical areas based on the results of that analysis. 2.12 Continues to develop Paediatric and Neonatal Life Support (PALS/NALS) Training. 2.13 Establishes and develops effective communication with all disciplines of staff. 2.14 Utilizes staff, supplies and equipment economically and effectively. 2.15 Promptly investigate complaints and incidents in relation to Code Blue Activities and report findings to the Code Blue Committee, the Medical and Nursing Director. 2.16 Ensures the Code Blue Activation procedure is operating and audits code blue activation. 2.17 Advices Directors and Head of Departments on appropriately agreed Policies and Procedures in relation to the Disciplinary and Grievance Procedures. 2.18 Works in collaboration with the Department of Medicine and Nursing and the Training Center. 2.19 Submits a monthly report to Code Blue Committee and Medical and Nursing Director. The designated Nurse Education will provide support and take responsibility for the following: 3.0 2.22 Audits Resuscitation Trolley according to planned schedule. 2.23 Ensures Policies and Procedures are in place, correctly implemented and maintained and up to date in relation to current trends and issues in the subject of resuscitation. 2.24 Maintains training records of all staff in relation to BCLS/ACLS and other related courses. Sends participants results to Assistant Programme Director Academic Affairs & Training and Director of Nursing. 2.25 Attends Nursing Team meetings and serves on such working group or committees as appropriate in relation to resuscitation issues. HOURS OF WORK: 48 hours per week structured according to job requirements. 4.0 REQUIREMENTS: 4.1 Qualifications or Related Experience: 4.1.1 Essential: Registered Nurse, Doctor or Health Care Professional with minimum of 2 years Critical Care background.
