Brownfield Sites of Connecticut Brownfield Sites Tips, Hints, and Resources Page 2009 Update If any of the links has changed as is no longer the appropriate site I intended for you, back out, close the window, and tell me A.S.A.P. Tips and Hints: 1. This project is about doing research and working in multiple windows. 2. You can often get a picture from Mapquest or Google Earth. To get the picture into the form. View it on your screen, do a Ctrl+Print Screen, put the curser where you want it to go, paste, and then crop it down to size. 3. Good questions are those such as… “Is it safe to put a day care center on this property?”… “Is it safe to put a well for drinking water at this site?” 4. A good hypothesis would look at how to check whether the contaminate is still there. If mercury is still present at the site, then a test of the soil for mercury will return back a positive result, because the site has not been fully decontaminated. You can change this example to fit your situation. 5. You do not need to know how to do a test for mercury, just that the test can be used to show the site has been cleaned or still needs to be remediated. 6. The Email: It will help you to pretend that you are a real estate agent, and that someone has contacted you asking about the property. Explain to them how a test may be used to tell whether it is safe or not. 7. Going to Mr. Brown’s homepage will help you get a list of all the vocabulary needed to complete this unit. Do this after you complete the form, or as you need to know what a word means. 1. Go to his home page. 2. Go to the Brownfield page. 3. Go to the review game. 4. Go to list of terms. 5. Complete your term squares. 8. Here is a list of the activities that might have been at a particular site (place), based on the type of business that used to be there.
