Amethyst is one of the most prized and interesting members of the quartz family. Amethyst is
a traditional symbol of spirituality, but it also has connections to sobriety. Its name comes
from the Greek "amethustos" meaning not drunken, and ancients believed that grinding
amethysts and adding it to their wine would prevent them from feeling the wine's effects.

March's birthstone gets its name from the Latin "aqua" for water and "mare" for sea. Most
fitting because of the light blue and sea-blue-green shades that aquamarine is found in.
Aquamarine's name and color make it a fitting gemstone for sailors, thought to keep the
wearer safe while on water, to prevent seasickness, and to give its wearer courage. 18th

ITEM F06: African Prehnite pendant, 14x10mm oval weighing 5.50 carats set in
Sterling silver with Italian Sterling silver box chain. $75.00*
ITEM F06A: Matching 9mm round earrings, totaling 4.70 carats, set in sterling

Prehnite is a pale yellowish to light green stone, sometimes even resembling jade, but
prehnite often displays a unique glow or sheen. It was named after its discoverer, Hendrik
Van Prehn, a Dutchman who brought prehnite from Africa to Europe in the late 1700s.
ITEM F07: Red Lab Padparadscha sapphire pendant and earrings, set in Sterling
Silver with Italian Sterling silver box chain. Pendant stone is 10mm round at 5.05
carats with three 2mm genuine white sapphire accents. Earrings hold two 6mm

Sapphire is the May birthstone. The most desired and expensive of sapphires is the
Padparadscha sapphire and extremely rare. These lab created sapphire are NOT imitation
stones, but genuine stones grown in lab conditions from real Padparadscha “seeds.”

Prasiolite (or praziolite) is a light to medium green variety of quartz. It gets its name from the
Greek words “prason” meaning “leek” (the vegetable of this color) and “lithos” meaning
“stone.” It is sometimes mistaken for peridot or green tourmaline. It is found, in increasingly
smaller quantities, in Brazil and the U.S. (Arizona). Considered soon to become a rare stone.
As an amethyst, it makes a great February birthstone.

Prasiolite is found, in increasingly smaller quantities, in Brazil and the U.S. (Arizona).
Considered soon to become a rare stone, this green amethyst makes a great February
birthstone.

Danburite is almost always colorless or white. Growing in popularity, danburite is a perfect

ITEM F12: Almandine garnet, 5x5mm heart totaling 1.0 carats, set in Sterling silver

Almandine is a form of garnet and comes in a distinctive dark tone with an intense red that
inclines toward a violet-red hue. Worn by royalty and crusaders alike, almandines were
considered as talismans against poison and wounding.

daylight and a beautiful turquoise blue in fluorescent light. This stone is a 9x7mm

This pendant is designed for a young girl or teen. Chrome diopside is growing in popularity
and is enjoyed for its rich vibrant green color. The finest chrome diopside gemstones are
found in Siberia and Yakutia. This beautiful gemstone is relatively soft and therefore should
be handled with care; it is best to avoid rough handling and to clean only with warm soapy
water.

Fire opal is a translucent variety of opal. Its name is derived from its color, which looks like a

The colors of aquamarine range from the lightest blue of the sky to the deepest blue of the
sea, hence the name. Women all over the world love aquamarine because its color suits
almost any complexion or eye color. Aquamarine is the traditional birthstone for March. While
I could not get my camera to show the beautiful pale blue, it’s the same color as below.

Yag is a manmade gemstone that, like CZ, does not have a counterpart in nature. Yag has the
same basic crystal structure of garnet but is not garnet. Dopants are added to the mix to
create the various colors that yag is created in. It’s a fun and affordable diamond stimulant
ranking a durable 8 on Mohs’ hardness scale.
