The P&G Surrey Youth Games Epsom & Ewell Awards 2013
It was an unforgettable evening for everyone who attended the P&G Surrey Youth Games
Epsom & Ewell Awards 2013 presentation. The awards which took place on Wednesday 3 July at the Epsom
Playhouse celebrated a number of awards including the success of Team Epsom & Ewell who won first place at
this year’s Games bringing home the Champions Trophy.
112 participants from Team Epsom & Ewell attended the evening along with their families and team managers.
Also present were guests from the Rotary Club Epsom, The Rainbow Leisure Centre, Active Surrey, local
schools and the Chairman of the Surrey Sports Board. The awards evening was a huge success with a total of
over 370 attendees enjoying the celebrations, the highest attendance than in previous years.
The Mayor of Epsom & Ewell, Councillor Colin Taylor; the Mayoress and Councillor Jan Mason, Chairman of the
Leisure Committee presented all participants with a certificate and a small plaque engraved with 'P&G Surrey
Youth Games 2013 Champions, Team Epsom & Ewell'.
The following awards were presented at the evening:
 Overall Borough Trophy: Winner - Team Epsom & Ewell
 Best Entry Trophy: Joint winners of highest team entry - Epsom & Ewell Borough Council & Mole Valley
District Council
 Girls Hockey Trophy: Winner - Epsom Girls Hockey team (Gold medal winners at P&G Surrey Youth
Games 2013)
 Lacrosse Trophy: Winner - Epsom Lacrosse team (Gold medal winners at P&G Surrey Youth Games
2013)
 Charlie Steer Shield for the Most Supportive Club: Winner - Epsom Lacrosse Club
 Shield for the Most Supportive School sponsored by the Rotary Club: Winner - Stamford Green Primary
School
 Shield for the Most Supportive Team Manager sponsored by the Rotary Club: Winner - Martin Henlan,
Basketball
 Shield for the Young Volunteer of the Games: Winner - James Peters from Glyn School
 Winning Young Ambassadors (from the school with the most registrations) awarded with vouchers for
their hard work and effort: Winners - Emily Sinclair, Emma Brady & Austin Leitch from Stamford Green
Primary School.
In addition, The Rainbow Leisure Centre also offered two three month junior 'Better health and fitness'
membership prizes for those individuals that returned a completed Epsom & Ewell P&G Surrey Youth Games
feedback form. The Borough's mascot, Derby the Horse helped with selecting the winners for the prize draw.

Councillor Jan Mason, Chairman of the Leisure Committee said, "It was a very special evening indeed, well
done to everyone who won awards, took part and helped make the awards celebrations a success. The
Borough should be very proud of Team Epsom & Ewell's achievements; it is a real credit to all our young
people. I hope this encourages more participation for next year's Games to help us defend our title for 2014".
It has been a memorable P&G Surrey Youth Games for Team Epsom & Ewell this year and from October the

Team Epsom & Ewell have won the coveted overall Borough Trophy for the first time at the annual P&G
Surrey Youth Games 2013 held on Saturday 15 and Sunday 16 June at Surrey Sports Park in Guildford.

The squad of 201 young people from Epsom & Ewell aged between seven and 15 years did the
Borough proud and came away with a fantastic collection of medals - two Gold in Girls Hockey and
Lacrosse; two Silver in Junior Squash and Girls Rugby and four Bronze in Lacrosse, Senior Squash,
Girls Basketball and Senior Girls Judo as well as individual gold, silver and bronze medals in Judo.

About P&G Surrey Youth Games
Now in their 17th year, The P&G Surrey Youth Games are the largest annual youth sports festival in
Surrey, and give many young people their first experience of a competitive, countywide sporting event.
There are many different sports, including four for young people with a disability. The 11 Surrey
Boroughs and Districts of Elmbridge, Epsom and Ewell, Guildford, Mole Valley, Reigate and Banstead,
Runnymede, Spelthorne, Surrey Heath, Tandridge, Waverley and Woking enter teams into the Games.
The purpose of organising the Games is as a way of developing sport in Surrey. Via the Games, the
following outcomes are achieved:
o More young people take part in competitive sport, and continue to take part in sport.
o More sports clubs become accredited by their National Governing Body, thereby improving the
quality of sports clubs in Surrey.
o More people become qualified in sports coaching and officiating.
o New junior sports clubs or sections are created.
o The coaching and officiating skills of people in Surrey are improved.

Borough facts
