Objective: Of late, the Vidyapith has attained distinction for its numerous quality initiatives in various fields ranging from traditional liberal arts, social sciences and fine arts to cutting edge new emerging disciplines. Most notably, the Department of Science & Technology, Government of India has identified it for setting up a state-of-the art Center for Mathematical Sciences (CMS). As the Vidyapith enters the 75th year of its existence and completes 25th year as an institution deemed to be university, it planned to celebrate establishment of the CMS at its campus by hosting an International Conference on Discrete Mathematics as a part of ‘jubilee celebrations’. The conference attracted leading Discrete Mathematicians and Theoretical Computer Scientists from across the world with a view to seek their active participation in the activities of the CMS. 2. Speakers: The Conference had a record number of speakers, all eminent experts in the field of Discrete Mathematics from overseas in a span of three days. Fifteen speakers in the area of Discrete Mathematics were invited out of which following 12 consented and gave a talk as mentioned below. Speakers Prof. D. J. Participants: Participation for paper presentation was invited from all over the country by sending invitation to Heads of the Departments of Mathematics/Computer Science of various Institutes/ Universities and Research Organizations and also announcing the Conference on the website of Banasthali University www.banasthali.org. The applications and the papers received were scrutinized by the Advisory Committee and short listed based on relevance of the Conference topic with their research. Forty candidates were short-listed on the basis of their paper acceptance by the review committee and were invited and finally twenty-five candidates participated. In addition to this Eighty-five faculty members and Thirty-three students from Banasthali University also participated. 4. Inauguration: A three-day International Conference on Discrete Mathematics (JCDM-2009) started on Jan 11, 2009 in Banasthali University. University celebrated Diamond Jubilee this year as an institution and silver jubilee as a deemed University. The prestigious centre for CMS inaugurated by Prof. Daniel J. Klietman of Massachusetts Institute of Technology, USA in presence of Prof. Divakar Shastri, President, Banasthali University and Prof. Aditya Shastri, Vice-Chancellor and Director CMS. Many eminent mathematicians from all over the globe including Prof. G.O.H. Katona and Prof. Vera T. Sös of Hungarian Academy of Sciences, Prof. Glen Hurlburt of Arizona State University, USA and Prof. Benny Sudakov of University of California (UCLA) addressed the participants in the inauguration. Around two hundred delegates of the conference were academicians and scholars working on Discrete Mathematics and Theoretical Computer Science from all parts of India and abroad. The academic program of Jubilee Conference consisted of plenary talks, invited talks and paper presentation encompassing all areas of Discrete mathematics and it’s applications.
