Broad Institute Center for Genotyping and Analysis
Application Form for Subsidized Genotyping for
Cardio-Metabochip – Part II
Application deadline October 9, 2009.
Through funding from grant U54 RR020278 from the National Center for
Research Resources, the Broad Institute Center for Genotyping and
Analysis (CGA) is now offering subsidies for genotyping of non-European
origin cohorts on the Illumina Cardio-metabochip.
The CGA anticipates funding the genotyping of up to 5,800 DNA samples in total.
Preference will be given to sample collections from under-represented
populations (e.g., not of European origin). 100% of the costs of the DNA sample
management and processing via the Broad Biological Samples Platform (BSP),
and 50% of the cost of the Cardio-metabochip processing will be provided to
approved applicants for a to-be-determined number of applicants’ DNA samples.
The subsidies will be distributed based on a peer review process using a two-part
web-based application found here, below. Applications received by the due date
will be reviewed based on scientific merit and fit with the goals of the Cardiometabochip consortium. The subsidy amount will be awarded to each approved
applicant based in part on the total number of awards and on the total number of
samples applied for.
The subsidies will be distributed based on a peer review process using a two-part
web-based application. This is the second part; this first is found here:
http://www.broadinstitute.org/science/projects/broad/ncrr-centergenotyping-analysis/metabochip-genotyping-project-questionnaire
Applicants for subsidized genotyping must adhere to the following requirements:
1. Funds are in place at the commencement of the project to support
the unsubsidized portion of the budget.
2. All DNA samples are available at commencement of project.
3. IRB approval is in place for use of human subjects.
4. Applicant will acknowledge the funding source in any publications
and/or presentations.
Applicants should use the form below to provide all information requested.
Please upload completed applications and documents via:

as a Word Document or PDF file. Notification of award will be sent to
investigators by email.

Briefly describe the hypothesis being tested that will be addressed by the
proposed genotyping project.
Describe the ethnic origin(s) of the sample, and briefly explain the
significance of use of the Cardio-Metabochip on this sample.
Briefly describe the trait(s) to be studied.
Describe criteria for sample selection and power calculations for proposed
study. Power calculation should take into account multiple comparison testing
appropriate for proposed study.
C. Sample suitability
Can this study begin within three months of award notification (viz., all
samples shipped)? If not, please explain.
Quantity of DNA available for genotyping and method of quantification
Method of DNA extraction used. Has Whole Genome Amplification been
performed, or are the samples to be genotyped native?
Description of previous genotyping on samples. Include any quality
assessment that has been performed (call rate in prior genotyping, result of
segregation checks in family based samples)
Institutional IRB that gave human subjects approval, protocol number and
approval date (Note: samples without IRB approval will not be accepted).
