Andrew P Kuprat, PhD INSTITUTION AND LOCATION University of Victoria, Victoria Canada University of California, Berkeley Los Alamos National Laboratory Los Alamos National Laboratory Senior Scientist, Pacific Northwest National Laboratory DEGREE (if applicable) B.Sc. Ph.D. Post-Doc Post-Doc YEAR(s) 1984 1992 1992-1995 1995-1996 FIELD OF STUDY Mathematics and Physics Mathematics Plasma Physics Mechanics of Materials Positions and Employment 1996-2005 2005- Present Scientist, Los Alamos National Laboratory, Los Alamos, NM Senior Scientist, Battelle/Pacific Northwest Division (PNNL), Richland, WA Interests and Relevant Experience Dr. Kuprat is an expert at computational geometry, mesh generation, and the solution of partial differential equations using finite elements. His current interests include generation of optimized meshes for computational fluid dynamics simulations on human and animal airway and cardiovascular geometries, efficient schemes for conservatively mapping quantities in multiphysics simulations, and moving finite element methods for materials microstructure modeling. Dr. Kuprat was a primary developer of LaGriT (Los Alamos Grid Toolbox) at Los Alamos between 1994 and 2005. He continued development on a PNNL version of this code (called LaGriT-PNNL), incorporating novel scale-invariant meshing algorithms. LaGriT has been widely used in multimaterial geological meshing (including Yucca Mountain studies), while LaGriT-PNNL has been recently used for biomedical CFD mesh generation and materials science (solidification and heatflow) applications. Honors and Awards 1984-1988 National Science and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC) Postgraduate Scholarship. Advisory, Editorial and Professional Memberships Member of Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics (SIAM) since 1992.
