WELCH FAMILY SCHOLARHIP
In Memory of Michael, Julie, Jesse and Hannah Welch
Michael and his wife, Julie and children, Hannah and Jesse were wonderful, caring and
loving. They routinely put others needs before their own and tried to find ways to make this a better
world.
Michael’s ministry touched many hearts as he and Julie worked side by side spreading
Christianity. He loved God and all people. Michael and his family were about strong family values.
They also strongly believed in the power of education which included Julie home schooling
their children for many years. Likewise Michael received degrees from the University of Tennessee at
Chattanooga, University of Alabama and Vanderbilt University, Master of Divinity.
Julie also
received a degree from the University of Alabama and Barton College in Theology and Studies of
Religion.
Michael loved the land and his community. He had served many communities, but Macon
County had become his home. However he never forgot his roots in Soddy Daisy and the Chattanooga
area with the beautiful scenery and wonderful people.
On February 7, 2008, Michael, Julie, Jesse and Hannah Welch perished in an automobile
accident while serving their community after the devastating tornado hit Macon County, Tennessee.
REQUIREMENTS
1.
Must successfully graduate high school or pass the state requirements of same in either
Macon County area or Hamilton County area.
2.
Must attend an accredited college or university.
3.
Preference will be given to home schooled children that apply in the Macon County,
Tennessee area.
4.
Financial need will be weighted more heavily than those with more resources.
5.
Academic success, service to their community and part-time jobs will also be considered.
6.
Preference will be given to those who are attending the University of Tennessee at
Chattanooga; University of Alabama, Vanderbilt University and Barton College
