Traci Hansen
Hi my name is Traci Hansen. I am a self-taught artist from Northern Alberta. Self-employed owning a small
sign making business for over 20 years .Feeling grateful that I am now able to make more time for my true
passion of painting. Acrylics are my choice of medium, although I dabble in mixed media. Living on a quarter
section in the North offers me unlimited beauty to paint. My 7 horses are my inspiration. All having unique
personality and beauty. My paintings are colourful and vibrant, although I have done many commissioned
custom pieces to work with clients home decor. Donating paintings to The Rocky Mountain Wilderness Society
and Local Charities is my way of giving back. My belief is that we are all feeling things need to slow down...we
need to see the world around us and have less technology in our daily routine. This is what has made me pick
up the brush again after many years and share my vision with whoever wants to share it with me. Thank you
for taking the time to read this.
Life is good!

CLASS DESCRIPTIONS
GYMKHANA
Attire to be English or Western. To be shown around obstacles. Judged on timing and faults. This is an event within the
horse show.
SHOWMANSHIP English or Western – Horses to be shown in hand. Handler, to be judged on ability to show horse, on
the appearance of the horse (grooming and condition). Tack should be neat, clean and in good repair. Exhibitor should
be in suitable attire for the discipline shown. Pattern may be asked for at judge’s discretion.
TRAIL
Trail Class will be run open gate. Only 4-H members can enter 4-H Incentive classes. Must show proof of membership.
This class will be judged on the performance of the horse over obstacles, with emphasis on manners, response to the rider
and quality of movement. Credit will be given to horses negotiating the obstacles with style and some degree of speed,
providing correctness is not sacrificed. Horses should receive credit for showing attentiveness to the obstacles and the
capability of picking their own way through the course when obstacles warrant it, and willingly responding to the rider’s
cues on more difficult obstacles. Attire to be English or Western. Class to be posted a minimum of one hour before class.
WESTERN PLEASURE
A good western pleasure horse has a free flowing stride of reasonable length in keeping with his conformation. He should
cover a reasonable amount of ground with little effort. Ideally, he should have a balanced, flowing motion, while
exhibiting correct gaits that are of proper cadence. The quality of movement and the consistency of gaits is a major
consideration. He should carry his head and neck above the level of the withers. He should not carry his head behind the
vertical, giving the appearance of intimidation, or be excessively nosed out, giving a resistant appearance. His head
should be level with his nose slightly in front of the vertical, having a bright expression with his ears alert. He should be
shown on a reasonably loose rein, but with light contact and control. He should be responsive, yet smooth, in transitions
when called for. When asked to extend, he should move out with the same flowing motion. Maximum credit should be
given to the flowing, balanced and willing horse which gives the appearance of being fit and a pleasure to ride.
WESTERN HORSEMANSHIP
To be shown at walk, jog, lope, both ways. Individual work may be required at the judges’ discretion. Riders to be
judged on seat, hands, and the ability to control the horse. This class is to determine the ability of the rider. Results
shown by the performance of the horse are not considered more important than the method used to obtain them.
REINING
The reining horse should be guided or controlled with little or no apparent resistance and dictated to completely. Any
movement of his own must be considered lack of control. Devieations from the exact pattern will be faulted according
to the severity of the deviation. Credit will be given for smoothness, finesse, attitude, quickness, and authority in
performing the various manoeuvres while using controlled speed. Pattern to be posted minimum of one hour prior to
the start of the class. Boots and leg wraps are allowed.
WESTERN DRESSAGE - Western Style Dressage Association of Canada website to download tests.

The horse shall give the distinct appearance of being a pleasure to ride. To perform at a walk, normal trot with
rider posting, a strong trot, a canter and a hand gallop. English attire and tack used with emphasis on
informality. Since this is a pleasure English riding horse, manners, performance, quality and conformation are
desired in that order.
ENGLISH EQUITATION
To be shown at a walk, trot and canter both ways. Individual work may be required at judges’discretion. Riders to be
judged on seat, hands, and ability to control the horse. This class is to determine the ability of the rider. Results shown by
the performance of the horse are not considered more important than the method used to obtain them.

present an overall appearance of substance with refinement. Only 8 horses to hand gallop at once.
