The PSAT is one of the most useful tools for high school 10th and 11th graders to use in
planning high school course selection, preparing for the SAT, and planning for college
admission. Rockwall High School implemented a smooth and easy to follow plan for
testing all 10th and 11th graders. This plan utilizes teachers for test administration,
distribution and explanation of score results, and implementation of AP Potential. This
plan includes how to set up individualized Academic Conferences for students and
parents centered around PSAT score results and AP Potential individualized letters.
Timeline:
September:
Assign 2nd Period teachers to class size group or hall monitoring for PSAT
October:
Test students through 2nd period
Use Optional Codes to receive reports separated by classroom groups*

Pack test books by classroom groups and store in secure storage
December:

Dear Parents of
As your eleventh grader approaches the senior year, many important decisions must be
made. Selection of courses, graduation plans, college admissions and career choices are
just a few of the issues facing senior students. The counseling department is excited
about playing a vital role in this decision-making process. We would like to invite you
to join us at your student’s academic conference.
Event: Junior Academic Conference
Date:
Time:
Place: Counseling Office at Rockwall High School
Counselor:
For: Senior Schedule Planning
We understand your schedule may conflict with this time. If so, we will meet with your
student and give them a copy of the information to bring home that evening.
The first week of February, the juniors will receive the Academic Planning Guide and
Course Request Sheet. Please be sure your student brings these materials to the
scheduled conference or turns the form in to the counselors’ office by February 14. The
RISD Academic Planning Guide can be accessed on-line at
http://www.rockwallisd.com.
Please carefully review elective choices with your child before the academic conference
so that we have time to answer all of your questions. After your conference, schedules
may be changed through June 13, 2008 but no changes will be considered after that
date.
On the day of the conference, please sign in at Rockwall High School upon your arrival.
You may sign in at either the front office or at the attendance counter. (Visitor parking
is located near the front entrance. You may also park in the faculty parking lot on the
east side of the building.)
We look forward to discussing your student’s plans and goals with you.
Sincerely,
RHS Guidance Department
