Subject: Inclusion of Organic Manure in the Fertiliser Control Order, 1985.
The draft specification for inclusion of organic manure in the Fertiliser
Control Order, 1985 is hereby posted on the website of Department of Agriculture

DRAFT SPECIFICATION OF ORGANIC MANURE TO BE NOTIFIED
UNDER THE FERTILISER (CONTROL) ORDER,1985
The issue of inclusion of various kinds of organic manure in the
Fertiliser Control Order, 1985 was discussed in the 39th meeting of the
Central Fertiliser Committee. The committee recommended to have a
generalized FCO Specifications for Organic Manure produced from organic
raw material from different plant animal origin. Since, there is no method
available by which one could distinguish various types of organic manure also
quality control of raw material of specific manure/ compost is not possible,
therefore, the CFC constituted a technical group for formulation of general
specification applicable to all kind of manure irrespective of their source and
method of manufacturing. The technical committee recommended the
following specifications
(i) Moisture, per cent by weight maximum
(ii) Colour
(iii) Odour
(iv) Particle size
(v) Bulk density (g/cm3)
(vi) Total organic carbon per cent by weight,
minimum

In regard to the NPK nutrients, the committee recommended that the
total N P2 O5 K2 O nutrient should not be less than 3% and each
individual nutrient should also be not less than 0.5 %. It was also
recommended that in FCO as afoot note, it is to be mentioned that the
source of organic manure is any of the plant and animal Biomass/
Animal Excreta.
