ESRC funded, 2009-10. Will is now a Research Associate on an ESRC
funded project at the University of Bristol and will take up a British Academy
funded postdoctoral fellowship in January 2012 at the University of Bristol.
Dr Parveen Akhtar: Religion, Ethnicity and Political Participation: a study
of young British Pakistani Muslims in the UK (mentor Prof Paul Statham)
ESRC funded, 2008-09. Parveen took up a British Academy funded
postdoctoral fellowship in January 2011 at the University of Bristol
Dr Victoria Basham on social diversity, identity, military masculinities and
civil-military relations: Contesting Social Diversity in the British Armed
Forces: Military Doctrine, Society and the Limits to Identity (mentor Dr Tim
Edmunds) ESRC funded, 2007-08. Victoria is currently an Honorary
Research Fellow and Teaching Assistant, University of Bristol.

Dr Daniel Conway on masculinities, conscientious objection, peace activism

Daniel is now a Lecturer in the Department of Politics, International Relations
and European Studies, University of Loughborough.
Dr Alina Zilberman on public opinion, foreign policy and democratisation
Democratisation, Foreign Policy and the Public Sphere: Case of Post-Soviet
Russia (mentor Prof Richard Little) ESRC funded, 2006-07. Alina is now a
Teaching Fellow at the European Research Institute, University of
Birmingham.
Dr Matthew Cole: Aspects of Moral Regulations in Sociological and
Governmental Discourses and Practices (mentor Prof Ruth Levitas) ESRC
funded, 2005-06.
Dr Ranji Devadason: Young Adults’ Working Lives in two European
‘Globalising’ Cities: Dissemination of key findings (mentor Ms Jackie West)
ESRC funded, 2005-06. Ranji has worked as a research assistant on an EU
funded project and now has a BA funded 3-year postdoctoral fellowship at the
University of Bristol.
Dr Johanna Kantola on feminism, the state, and state feminism: Gender and
the State: Comparisons of Feminist Discourses in Finland and Britain (mentor
Dr Jutta Weldes) ESRC funded 2005-06. Johanna is currently a Senior
Lecturer in the Department of Political Science, University of Helsinki.
Dr Mona Lena Krook on gender quotas and women’s political participation:
Politicising Representation: Campaigning to Increase Women’s Political
Participation Worldwide (mentor Prof Judith Squires) 2005-06. Mona is an
Associate Professor of Political Science and Women and Gender Studies,
Washington University, St. Louis;
Dr Marina Prieto-Caron on gender, work and corporate social responsibility:
Gender, Work and Corporate Social Responsibility in Textile and Banana
Production in Central America (mentor Dr Jutta Weldes) 2005-06. Marina is
currently a Visiting Fellow in the School of Geographical Sciences, University
of Bristol.
