The range statements across the unit standard can be applied according to industry specific equipment, procedures, and processes. 2 Safety of personnel and plant must be a priority throughout the assessment. If the safety requirements are not met the assessment must stop. 3 There must be evidence of understanding the principles and purpose of safe work practices and performance and outcomes and evidence requirements must comply with all current legislation, especially the Electricity Act 1992 (and any amendments), and any regulations and codes of practice recognised under that statute; the Health and Safety in Employment Act 1992 (and any amendments); and the Resource Management Act 1991. Electricity supply industry codes of practice and documented industry procedures include the current version of the Safety Manual – Electricity Industry (SM-EI) (Wellington: Electricity Engineers’ Association), and occupational safety and health codes of practice. Evidence requirements 1.1 The requirements for use of personal protective equipment (PPE) in the electricity supply industry are explained. 1.2 Appropriate personal protective equipment is selected for purpose. Range 1.3 includes but is not limited to – eye protection, head protection, gloves, rubber gloves, hearing protection, foot protection, personal fall arrest system (PFAS) equipment, UV protection, overalls. May include – breathing apparatus. Evidence of six required. The inspection procedure for personal protective equipment is explained. Range includes but is not limited to – eye protection, head protection, gloves, rubber gloves, hearing protection, foot protection, personal fall arrest system (PFAS) equipment, UV protection, overalls. May include – breathing apparatus. Evidence of two required. Outcome 2 Use personal protective equipment in an electricity supply environment. Range evidence of three different workplace environments requiring the use of personal protective equipment. Evidence requirements 2.1 Personal protective equipment is checked to ensure still within inspection date and set up on site. 2.2 Personal protective equipment is used. Range adjustment, attachment, security. Outcome 3 Maintain electricity supply personal protective equipment after use. Range evidence of three occurrences. Range 3.3 Arrangements are made for any defective or out of date personal protective equipment to be replaced. 3.4 Personal protective equipment is checked ready for re-use and stored appropriately.
