The federal college work-study program is designed to provide on campus jobs to students with financial need. The earned money may be applied to students’ tuition, educational needs, or personal expenses. To receive work-study a students must apply for financial assistance by completing a FAFSA form and demonstrate need as determined by the federal government. On the C.W. Post campus, we pay the minimum hourly wage, which is currently $7.15. The overall amount awarded for the year (which is broken up into fall and spring semesters) depends on when you applied, your level of need, and the funding level of the school. Each year your awarded amount may change. Individual departments/supervisors may increase the hourly pay rate; however, please keep in mind that the more money a student earns per hour, the fewer hours they need to work to reach their maximum awarded amount. A student may work a maximum of 20 hours per week while classes are in session. There is no minimum amount of hours. During intercession and breaks a student may work up to 35 hours a week. ALL RETURNING STUDENTS TO THE SAME DEPARTMENT MUST ALSO VISIT THE PEP OFFICE FOR THE PAPERWORK. All students must be on some list from Financial Assistance indicating they have been verified and cleared in order to meet with a PEP counselor for a work-study placement. All students will go to Personnel and fill out the appropriate paperwork after they have found a work-study position. A birth certificate or social security card and a valid driver’s license or student ID card will be necessary. A U.S. passport will satisfy all the above. A student may not be paid work-study and budget money simultaneously. They may go on a department budget after they have completed the work-study award. A student may work 2 (two) work-study jobs at the same time, however, they still cannot exceed 20 hours a week between both positions AND they must receive EQUAL pay from both jobs. It is up to the individual supervisors to agree to a pay rate. Timesheets will track the days/hours a student works. Timesheets will be submitted to Personnel and then forwarded to Payroll. A student will receive a paycheck biweekly. Paychecks may be picked up on the assigned day or thereafter from the Bursar’s office. A valid driver’s license or C. W. Post student ID card is required.
