The Bruce Museum announces the first in a three-part lecture series at on Sunday, March 13,
2011, at 3 p.m., presented in conjunction with the current exhibition Three Sisters & Corn Maidens:
Native American Maize Cultivation and Customs. Dr. John P Hart, Director of Research & Collections
at the New York State Museum in Albany, speaks in a lecture entitled “Evolving the Three Sisters: The
Changing Histories of Maize, Bean and Squash in the Greater Northeast.” The lecture is free with
Museum admission. Reservations are suggested; call the Museum at 203-869-0376.
Dr. Hart is an expert in the evolution of prehistoric agriculture. His research focuses on the
evolution of prehistoric agriculture in northeastern North America. He is the author of numerous
professional papers that have been published in journals such as American Antiquity, Journal of
Archaeological Method and Theory, and Northeast Anthropology. Dr. John P. Hart’s archaeological

The Native American Lecture Series continues at the Bruce Museum on Sunday, April 17, when
independent scholar Dr. David Oestreicher presents “The Lenape: Lower New York’s First Inhabitants.”
The final lecture in this series features Dr. Harriet Koenig, Adjunct Professor of Anthropology, University
of Connecticut College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, who will discuss “Navajo and Hopi Traditions” on
Sunday, May 15, 2011, at 3 p.m.
The Bruce Museum is located at 1 Museum Drive in Greenwich, Connecticut. Admission is $7
for adults, $6 for seniors and students, and free for children under five. Bruce Museum members are free.
The Museum is located near Interstate-95, Exit 3, and a short walk from the Greenwich, CT, train station.
Museum hours are: Tuesday through Saturday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Sunday 1 p.m. to 5 p.m., and closed
Mondays and major holidays. Free admission for all visitors on Tuesdays. The Bruce Museum is
