These contributions have included achievements in agriculture, wildlife habitat, forestry, open space and conservation education and volunteer services. In 2005, in honor of the POS department’s 30th anniversary, the POS staff added two additional award categories: Environmental Stewardship and Historic Preservation. Award categories include: 1) Land Conservation, 2) Environmental Stewardship, and 3) Heritage Award for Excellence in Historic Preservation, 4) Volunteer, and 5) Partnership Program. General Selection Criteria: (specific criteria for each category is attached) The evaluation criteria for selection may include the nominee’s: 1. Activities that particularly affect unincorporated Boulder County 2. Demonstrated on-going effort, or a one-time effort, resulting in a significant improvement or lasting benefit to the county’s environmental landscape 3. Actions that are an example or model for others 4. Activities that increase public awareness of land conservation Who May Nominate: Anyone may submit a nomination, but nominating oneself or an organization of which one is an officer or director is not permitted. Eligible Recipients: Any individual, family or group of individuals whose place of residence or activity is Boulder County. Federal, state, county, special district and municipal government agencies are not eligible. The project or transfer of land must have been completed within the last five years. Selection Process: The Parks and Open Space Director will appoint a committee to review the nominations and submit up to three candidates to the Parks and Open Space Management Staff, who will make the final selection to recommend to the Board of County Commissioners for approval. Special consideration will be given to projects/individuals that have not been previously recognized by other organizations or awards programs. Winners will be notified by mail in February or March. Awards Ceremony: The Boulder County Commissioners will present the awards at a ceremony in April 2012 at the Boulder County Parks and Open Space Building. The event is open to the public and winners will be encouraged to invite family and friends to the event. 2 Guidelines and Criteria for Nominations ENVIRONMENTAL STEWARDSHIP AWARD Recognizes individuals, families, and organizations for contributions and activities that have made a significant impact on the conservation, preservation and/or protection of Boulder County’s land-based environmental resources through on-the-ground actions or program management. These activities may include the preservation or restoration of wildlife or natural ecosystems, or open space and conservation education. HERITAGE AWARD FOR EXCELLENCE IN HISTORIC PRESERVATION Recognizes individuals and organizations whose contributions demonstrate notable achievements in preserving Boulder County’s heritage through historic preservation projects. A significant portion of the project must be privately funded. Recognition could involve protection of historic or prehistoric resources through preservation or rehabilitation; interpretation; research; or design/planning.
