Press Release
Polagra-Premiery 2014
Accompanying Events
Surely there is no need to convince anyone about the fact that the agricultural sector is the
leading segment of Polish and global economy. Its strength, which will be also observed
during this year's Polagra-Premiery Fair, is the growing business awareness of farmers,
their desire for knowledge, and their great ambitions.
– With this in mind, this year we decided to strengthen the professional level of the meetings
in a special way and to offer – mostly to professionals – a varied programme of
accompanying events – says Jakub Patelka, Director of Polagra-Premiery International Fair of
Agricultural Mechanization.
The future of the agricultural sector in Poland lies also in the hands of the young generation,
without whom it would be difficult to imagine the sector's further development. Therefore,
POLAGRA-PREMIERY 2014 Fair opens to young, ambitious people who look at agriculture
and the works associated with it from a different perspective. – Their attitude is a
declaration of openness and technological modernity – says Jakub Patelka, Director of the
event. – In order to appreciate their role and participation in creating trends, we dedicate
one special day of the fair to young people and a highlight of this day will be the European
Young Farmers' Day. The upcoming edition of Polagra-Premiery Fair is also an attractive
event for whole families – says Jakub Patelka, Project Director. Having them in mind, a Kids
Club will be organised, as well as another edition of Modern Housewife, i.e. a zone dedicated
to women.
And what attractions will be exactly waiting for the participants of POLAGRA-PREMIERY
fair?
INNOVATION IN ANIMAL BREEDING
POLAGRA-PREMIERY fair bring together mostly exhibitors from the agricultural
mechanization industry. Whereas, during this year's event one will have an opportunity to
get acquinted with all the animal breeding cutting-edge, unique and extremely effective
solutions. - All the interested are most welcome to the zone Innovation in Animal Breeding
where pigs, beef and dairy cattle and poultry will be presented on the area of over 2 000
sqm. - explains James Patelka, Project Director. - This unique exhibition will be the result of
cooperation of Polish Federation of Cattle Breeders and Dairy Farmers, Polish Pig Breeders
and Producers Association POLSUS, The Polish Association of Beef Cattle Breeders and
Producers, The National Poultry Council, Chamber of Commerce, Institute of Animal
Production of the University of Life Sciences in Poznań and Międzynarodowe Targi
Poznańskie - he explains.
10th RAPESEED AND PROTEIN CROPS MANUFACTURERS FORUM
The analysis of oilseeds sector in Poland and the balance of foreign trade, risks in the
biofuels market, and the derivatives market as an instrument to reduce risk – these are the
main topics to be discussed by the participants of the Rapeseed Forum participants during
the Polagra-Premiery Fair. The event will be attended by special guests: Stanisław Kalemba,
Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Mariusz Olejnik, CEO of the National
Association of Rapeseed and Protein Crops Manufacturers /Krajowe Zrzeszenie Producentów
Rzepaku i Roślin Białkowych/, and Andrzej Byrt, President of the Management Board of
Międzynarodowe Targi Poznańskie.
GENOMIC REVOLUTION IN DAIRY CATTLE SELECTION
Research combining molecular and theoretical biology, i.e. genomics, is the future of
agriculture. Experts in the subject, specialists, theorists and practitioners will meet in Poznań
during Polagra-Premiery fair to discuss the latest developments and the opportunities for
implementing the findings in breeding practice. Specialists from Poland, Canada, Germany
and France will talk about genomic selection in dairy cattle breeding, the practical use of
genomics technology, as well as international cooperation between research centres. The
discussed issues will include, among others, genomic selection in dairy cattle breeding in
North America, changes in breeding programmes of selected cattle breeds as well as the
practical application of genomic technologies by farmers. The meeting is organised by the
Polish Federation of Cattle Breeders and Dairy Farmers.
NEW TRENDS IN BREEDING AND REPRODUCTION OF DAIRY CATTLE
The Commercial Department of the Embassy of Norway and the Norwegian Federation of
Cattle Breeders GENO invite you to the conference organized during the international
POLAGRA PREMIERY 2014 Fair. The programme of the event will feature presentations on
animal breeding for better life and more profitable milk production, international research
and breeding programmes, and the revolution in the reproduction of farm animals. For
decades Norway has been developing a unique system of selective breeding for the most
numerous local NRF breed. In the NRF population there is the progression of production
traits, i.e. productivity, with a simultaneous increased disease resistance, improved fertility
and cattle longevity, which is unique in the world. Productivity in the best herds is over
10,000 kg, and the best cows produce more than 16,000 kg. The index also includes the
growth parameters and bull calves intended for progeny testing exhibit daily gains of
approximately 1.4 kg per day. Mature cows reach a live weight of 500-600 kg.
CONFERENCES OF THE POLISH SEED AGENCY
Everyone interested in plant breeding, the seed market and varieties of agricultural plants is
invited to two events organised by the Polish Seed Agency at POLAGRA-PREMIERY fair. The
meetings will be held on Friday, 31st January, and Saturday, 1st February, and will be
dedicated to certified seed and genetic innovation in plant breeding. The conferences will be
accompanied by panel discussions during which the participants will be able to ask questions
preoccupying their minds.
BIOENERGY IN AGRICULTURE
A widely discussed topic of bioenergy in agriculture will be also taken up during the
POLAGRA-PREMIERY Fair thanks to the "Czysta Energia" /Clean Energy/ monthly, the
editorial team of which suggested an extensive conference programme. On January 30 from
10:00 am on Międzynarodowe Targi Poznańskie fairground the talks conducted will concern
electrical biogas plants, micro-installations using renewable energy sources and the
possibility of financing RES investments in rural areas. The formal and legal problems of the
construction of agricultural biogas plants and the technology of their construction will be
certainly interesting as well. The challenge for the participants of the meeting ending the
panel discussion will be the question: What next with bioenergy in agriculture?
5th edition of the National Competition of Farms and Breeders of Dairy and Beef Cattle
POLAGRA-PREMIERY fair is the perfect place to appreciate the outstanding breeders. The
award gala for the winners of the 5th National Competition of Farms and Breeders of Dairy
and Beef Cattle, held under the honorary patronage of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural
Development, starts 31st January 2014 at 13:00. The ceremony is organised by
Wielkopolskie Wydawnictwo Rolnicze.
EUROPEAN YOUNG FARMERS' DAY
Investment in the young generation of innovative and progressive farmers is the most
valuable enterprise and its fruits will soon be ready for reaping. The shared idea of education
and the broadening of horizons makes the future of the industry appear very bright.
Międzynarodowe Targi Poznańskie has also taken part in the integration of enterprising
young people and will host the Fourth Edition of the European Young Farmers' Day during
the POLAGRA-PREMIERY 2014 Fair. The event is organised by the Union of Rural Youth
/Związek Młodzieży Wiejskiej/ and the Polish Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development,
and the participants include hundreds of young farmers from a number of organizations and
associations affiliated to the European Council of Young Farmers. The meeting is a unique
opportunity to exchange experience, as well as to discuss the most important issues
associated with agricultural activities. Seminars, analyses, training sessions and workshops –
all these await the participants of the European Young Farmers' Day.
KIDS CLUB
POLAGRA-PREMIERY fair is not only the time of hard work and business talks.
Międzynarodowe Targi Poznańskie does not forget about the youngest enthusiasts of
agricultural technology, who will come hungry for experiences in January. AGRO LAND - a
playground full of unforgettable attractions - is organised by the exhibition team just for
them. In this area, students of mechatronics and agriculture will conduct lessons and
practical activities on agricultural topics. Also, we will present here the land of animation and
games dedicated for children, i.e. the premiere edition of a paradise for junior and senior
infants. Interesting contests and a variety of artistic and conceptual challenges will
preoccupy children's minds when they are, to the parents' delight, looked after by
animators.
MODERN HOUSEWIFE
Polagra-Premiery appreciates tradition and visitors' trust and therefore every time another
editions of highly popular events are organised. The upcoming edition of Modern Housewife
undoubtedly follows this scheme. The event is held in a special area dedicated to women. A
cosy relaxation area will be prepared for them, where they will be able to taste aromatic
coffee or tea of a distinct flavour together with a delicious cake. On that day the waiting staff
will take care of the comfort and well-being of women who usually take care of their own
families. Each lady will have the opportunity to benefit from expert make-up, styling or diet
advice and free metamorphosis with a souvenir photo. They will also have the opportunity
to participate in bazaars dedicated for the needs of women, namely - the art and craft fair
and regional product fair. Among the goods offered on the stands, there will be also: pots,
plates, jewellery, accessories and many other objects pleasing the eye.
