Special Issue on “Big Data and Smart Computing: Methodology and Practice”
Theme and Scope
Big data, one of hottest topics in the area of Information Technology, aims to effectively explore massive and complex data to help
unveil answers to some of society’s most vexing problems. The key point is how to efficiently turn massively large data into valuable
information and meaningful knowledge, including exploiting parallelism of current and upcoming computer architectures,
programming models and algorithmic methodology for data intelligence mining, as well as engineering issues for implementation,
deployment and operation of different types of data intensive computing systems. Currently, big data and smart computing are
emerging research fields that have recently drawn much attention and interest in computer science and information technology as
well as in social sciences and other disciplines. This unique, special issue is intended to foster state-of-the-art research in the area of
big data technologies including the topics of algorithm development, implementation and execution.
This special issue will serve as a landmark source for education, information, and reference to students, professionals, and
researchers interested in updating their knowledge about or active in cloud computing and big data. For this, this special issue
welcomes submissions of papers that describe original research on advancement of concepts, theory, technologies and applications
of information processing based on big data, including, but not limiting to:
 Big data science and foundations, analytics, visualization and semantics
 Software and tools for big data management
 Cloud and grid computing
 Algorithmic, experimental, prototyping and implementation
 Data-driven innovation, computational modeling and data integration
 Computing, scheduling and resource management for sustainability
 Machine learning algorithms for big data
 Data capturing, management and scheduling techniques
 Performance measurement, analytical modeling and simulation
 Big data and smart computing applications (healthcare, medicine, finance, business, law, education, transportation,
telecommunication, science, engineering, ecosystem, etc.)
Instructions for Manuscripts
The submitted papers must be original and must not be under consideration in any other venue. This special issue will be based on
invitations. All submitted papers will be reviewed by at least three reviewers and selected based on their originality, significance,
relevance, and clarity of presentation. The editors will approve final decisions on accepted papers. Manuscripts should not exceed
16 pages in length and must be prepared for publication according to the following journal’s Author Guidelines:
