2013 Chequered Skipper
Instructions & Survey Form
This survey should only be undertaken in suitable weather (sunshine, with no more than
moderate winds and not when it is raining) during the flight period of Chequered Skipper (mid May to the end of
June) although preferably during its peak flight period (usually last week of May and first ten days of June).
Please check all areas of suitable habitat, both breeding habitat (areas of lush purple moor-grass (often growing
under bog myrtle)) and adult nectaring habitat (areas of nectar (esp bugle, bluebell and marsh thistle) in sunny,
sheltered locations). Please spend at least one hour surveying in the square even if you find Chequered Skipper
within an hour. Only one visit is necessary per recorder but you may wish to make a second visit if you do not
find the butterfly on your first visit.
Please fill in all unshaded boxes and provide a sketch map showing the area surveyed and location of any
Chequered Skipper(s) on the back of this form. Photographs of areas of suitable habitat will also be useful.
Please return this form even if you are unlucky and have not seen any Chequered Skipper!
For more info including an update on how the survey is progressing please visit: www.butterflyconservation.org/chequeredskipper or contact Tom (contact details at bottom of recording form). Good luck!
