STRIPE-CALC - Parking Lot Striping & Sealing Pricing Program (before starting make a backup of the disc) This program was designed to be easy to use. Copy all of the files to a directory on your C: drive called stripecalc. Open the c:\stripecalc directory and then open the spread32 program by double clicking on it. Choose file, open, stripecalc.xls . You can also create a shortcut on your desktop to make access even easier. The top section of the program is the pricing section and the bottom section is the pricing data section. The program uses the figures in the data section to calculate all prices, costs and profit figures. This section can be edited to reflect your local market and cost of paint and sealcoat material. The figures that are colored red can be changed. All other areas of the spreadsheet are protected to prevent accidental corruption. To price a job, enter the data collected from the jobsite in cells B8 - B18. Enter zeros in the cells that do not pertain to the job you are pricing. For example if you are not painting any letters or bumpers enter 0 in the cells pertaining to letters and bumpers. Pricing Section The numbers in blue are prices that you would quote the customer. The cost and profit numbers in black are for your own use. A description of items is as follows: Spaces - each line between a car is considered a space. Lines for spaces are normally between 18 and 20 feet long. Enter the number of parking lot spaces (lines) for the lot. Center line - These can be lines that separate cars parked bumper to bumper or lines that mark the center of lanes or roads. Enter the linear feet of lines Arrows - regular or large. Bumpers or light bases - cement car stops. Usually left unpainted but often painted yellow or handicap blue. Enter the number of bumpers or light bases to be painted. Fire lane - made up of one outside line and many diagonal lines running from the outside line to the curb. Enter the overall length of the firelane. Not the overall length of each individual line. The linear feet should match the curb length. Curbing - Painted on the top and front. Normally yellow. Enter linear feet to be painted. Letters - enter number of letters to be painted in the appropriate cell. Layout fee - For New Lots Only. Enter number of spaces in lot. Program adds a user designated amount per space to the total price for laying out the parking lot. If there is an item not listed in the above list that is part of a job you can enter extra in this space to account for it. For example, if you are to pressure wash the sidewalks and you would normally charge $200 you could enter an extra 200 spaces in this section to account for that item. SF of Asphalt to be sealed - there are two lines under this heading. One for spraying sealer and one for application with a squeegee. Pricing Data Section The red numbers at the bottom of the spreadsheet in the pricing data section can be edited. The $3 next to number of spaces means that you charge $3 per space or per 20 ft line. The also equates to 15 cents per linear foot. The 20 to the right of the $3 means that you get 20 lines to the gallon of paint. The centerline price is per linear foot. It is default priced at 15 cents. Next to it is the number 400 which means that you can spray 400 linear feet of lines with a gallon of paint. The arrow lines are priced at $10 and $15 meaning you get 10-15 dollars per arrow. The 30 and 20 to the right show that you can get 20 or 30 arrows to the gallon. Car bumpers are priced at $10 per bumper and the number to the right indicates that you can paint 20 bumpers per gallon of paint. Firelane is priced at 45 cents per foot. Because a firelane is made up of multiple lines the 45 cents would equate to about 15 cents per linear foot if all the lines were laid out in a single row. The 180 to the right indicates that you can paint approximately 180 feet of firelane with a gallon of paint. Curbing is priced at 45 cents per foot as well because one foot of curb is equal to about 3 stripes. The number to the right shows that you can paint approximately 150 feet of curb with a gallon of paint. The prices for letters are broken down by size. The estimated paint coverage is to the right. The layout fee is set a $1. The next line is the price per gallon for paint. Some paints cover more but cost more. If you pay more for paint but it covers more you would want to adjust the above numbers accordingly to reflect the extra coverage. Sealcoat prices are set at 7 cents to the square foot for both spray and squeegee. If you spray only one coat you may want to bump this down a little. The multipliers are used to raise the price by a percentage as an adjustment for parking lot conditions. A rough parking lot will take more material and time than a smooth one. The multiplier of 1 adds nothing to the 7 cent price. The 1.2 adds 20%, the 1.4 adds 40% and the 1.6 adds 60%. When rating a lot it is important to note both the roughness of the lot and the amount of sand that must be removed before sealing. The Sealcoat price per gallon is set at $1. This is for thinned , ready to apply material. You may pay $2 per gallon for concentrate that you can thin 2:1. This would make the final price per gallon $1. Sealant coverage is figured by the square foot and is again rated using thinned, ready to apply sealer. Sprayed sealer goes further than squeegee applied sealer and thus has a higher coverage rate. However, squeegee applications are generally thicker and longer lasting. Conclusion Make a copy of the stripecalc.xls file before you change any factors. Once you make changes that you wish to keep, choose file, save to keep the changes. If you do not want to keep changes make sure you exit the program without saving.
