have the necessary system files installed. The ‘Nut2Key’ file will need to
be copied into the distribution package manually.
Worksheets
A series of worksheets and information sheets are included and can be
accessed from the main menu as shown.
The worksheets are displayed as ‘Word’ files and can be printed easily as
required. Under the terms of the copyright the worksheets may be
freely copied, distributed and modified within the purchasing institution.
‘Nutrients’ was designed and programmed by Keith and Margaret Vernon.
Margaret teaches Food Technology in Hampshire and wanted a diet
analysis program that was easy for pupils to use. She wanted them to
spend time understanding food labels and nutrition data rather than in
using complicated software.
‘Nutrients’ was designed to be used at KS3 and 4 to meet the
requirements of the Design and Technology National curriculum. It
enables ICT to be used during the development of new food products for
nutrition modelling. Its use could also be incorporated in PSHE and
ASDAN courses supporting the ‘Food in Schools’ strategy. Advanced
features ensure that ‘Nutrients’ is also appropriate for 6th form use.
‘Nutrients’ has evolved as Food Technology has developed and new data
has become available. The new features included in version 2 are
designed to increase versatility and the new worksheets provide ready
made investigations that are designed to increase pupil’s knowledge and
understanding of nutrition.
Keith and Margaret have an ongoing commitment to updating and
improving this software and would like to hear your comments.
