Fr Higgins gave report – electrics and painting finished, new wiring completed in the ‘flat’
part of the house and work has started on ‘old’ part. Roof repaired on Presbytery and Parish
Centre. Roof over ‘conservatory’ replaced.
Liturgy, Adult Education and Formation

Had 2 meetings at Peter’s to discuss “faith”. Currently using “Why Go To Church” by Timothy
Radcliffe on which to base discussions. It is an “open” group – notice placed in both
newsletter and at back of Church
Music Group
SH
Music group had taken part in Buxton Festival and received a merit with mark of 86/100.
Certificate passed by Fr Higgins to M Swift and congratulations given to the group!
Outreach
AC
Presentation Associates - Supporting campaign “Against the Arms Trade” w/c 14th June, AC to
feedback to PPC
2 Associates (not from Buxton) are travelling to Zambia to see Kaoma Mission and the work
being done out there.
18 housebound parishioners received plants at Easter.
There are 3 more housebound parishioners
Coffee morning raised £341 in total
Polish Community – Easter celebrations were well attended
Churches Together – Christian Aid week 10th – 16th May

1 CAFOD - Climate Change Campaign –In Our Hands
Critical we take what action we can in the lead up to the Copenhagen conference.
Suggest offering the “CAFOD hands” to people to sign & return to church for us to send
on to CAFOD – agreed to take place in June
2 CAFOD - Making a Difference Survey
A survey designed to get people thinking about what they can do about poverty &
the environment and to comment on CAFOD’s work (also hoping to raise some extra
donations)
Should we offer this in the parish (or will it be too much assuming we will be having
the Harvest Appeal in September?) Agreed to make people aware of this survey,
through newsletter
3 Nottingham Diocese J & P Commitment to the Environment
A draft document has been prepared - will be available soon to distribute
4 Understanding CAFOD Day
CAFOD Notts have offered to run a day in Buxton – felt that this was a good initiative
and could be promoted more widely in the community through Churches Together and/or
deanery
Youth and Children

First Holy Communion – Sunday 10th May 3.00pm
Confirmation – Thurs 9th July. Briars weekend 22nd – 24th May 13 candidates attending
Guides – Involved in “Change the World” programme to raise awareness and funds for various
charities. St Anne’s Guides have chosen East Cheshire Hospice.
Took part in sponsored swim and bag pack to help Mayoral charities.
Holding Talent Show June 18th – Burbage Institute 7.00pm
St Anne’s Stars Youth Group - 23 went to the Briars, focused on different saints and their
characteristics, concentrating particularly on St Anne
I Muncaster reported that she has now raised £1401 for her bike ride to France
Social

Quiz night was great success; Parish Centre was full and involved a mix of age groups.
Feedback was very positive! More activities are planned including walk/afternoon tea, race
evening, another quiz eve, 60s night
Eucharistic Ministers thanked the Social Committee for their help with teas and coffees during
their renewal day

St Thomas More School – 50th Anniversary – nothing finalised as yet; this is primarily a school
event, organised by the school. Further details to be provided – JM/SH to investigate (with Iris
Thomson?)
Briars open day – 28th June – celebrating the 40th Anniversary. Starts with Celebration of the
Eucharist at 1.00pm see www.ndcys.com
Parish Retreat – date suggested Oct/Nov (Sat 10.00 – 4.00) Topic to be decided (possibly
Advent?) LC/MS to investigate further
