move to 3 A2 courses in Year

You start 3 or 4 Level 3 courses
that should be a mixture of BTEC,
Technical Diplomas or AS Levels.
We insist on:
You taking AS General
Studies in Year 12 and
consider taking A2 as your
‘extra’ A Level in Year 13
Taking AS General Studies in
Year 12 and consider taking
A2 as an extra A Level in Year
13.
We are not able to run the variety
and range of Level 2 Courses that
you need to be following. If you
haven’t already done so you need to
take some Career advice. Talk to
your tutor and we will help you find
the right course for you with one of
the local Further Education Colleges.
5C+ grades to come back to
Woldgate Sixth.
You should be
thinking about:
University courses at the
most academic of
universities in the future.
Look at the sort of courses
you are interested in
before choosing your A
Levels – some of these
‘Russell Group’
universities, on some
courses, are interested in
you getting A/A* grades in
particular subjects. These
academic universities will
need you to get A*/A/B
grades at A Level – the
more A*s you get at GCSE
now the better your
chances of being offered a
place by them!
Continuing your education
after A Levels at a university.
You may want to look at a
broad range of institutions
and courses that suit your
interests and aspirations.
Look at the courses you might
want to study before you
chose your A Level subjects –
for some courses several
institutions may want you to
have a specific subject on
your CV.
You may want to use your A
Levels to gain employment
with a firm that will offer you
Professional Training at the
end of Sixth Form.
BTEC courses have to be taken in
both Year 12 and 13 – they can’t
be dropped at the end of Year 12.
Keep at least 3 Level 3 courses
going into Year 13.
You take AS General Studies. You
may continue this into Year 13 at
A2 if you have attained your
Target Grade at AS.
You should have at least C+
grades in any of the AS Levels you
choose.
Looking at Further Education
institutions that will offer you the
chance to study for a qualification
linked to a specific job. This may
be at Degree Level or some
appropriate Professional
Qualification.
At the end of the Sixth Form you
may want to use your Level 3
qualifications to get employment
with a firm that will train you and
give you the opportunity to
obtain Professional
Qualifications.
You may start a mixture of 3
Vocational and Academic Level 3
courses only through negotiation
with Mrs Longstaff.
You continue the Level 3 BTEC
courses into Year 13.
You take Maths and/or English
GCSE in Year 12 to ensure you get
your C Grade.
You take AS General Studies. You
may continue this into Year 13 at
A2 if you have attained your
Target Grade at AS
Making sure you get Maths and
English at C+ before the end of
Year 11.

Level 3 AS Courses: To start an AS/A2 course you must have attained 5 or
more C+ grades at GCSE. In some subject areas it is important that you have
attained a B+ grade in that subject at GCSE, in others this is less vital – you
must talk to your subject teachers about that. In all cases C+ grades in English
Language and Maths GCSEs are crucial.
Level 3 BTEC Courses are 2 year courses: they cannot be dropped at the end
of Year 12. You can follow most of them as either a single or double award –
but the commitment has to be made at the start of Year 12; you can’t change
your mind part way through!
Business Studies National Diploma L3: is again a 2 year course and can’t be
dropped at the end of Year 12.
The National Diploma and the Single BTECs can be fitted into the timetable
slot of 1 AS, the Doubles into the slots of 2 AS subjects.
vc: These courses are taught by video conference. The timetable for these are
negotiated by the provider and may take place in a twilight session at the
end of the College day. Students following these courses will be allocated 4
periods a week that must be used for the guided learning/preparation work
that is attached to the video conference sessions (see brochure).
# These courses will be taught at Bishop Burton College. Other AS courses will
need to ‘fit’ around this BTEC commitment.
We have some flexibility to ‘buy in’ alternative AS/A2 courses from video
conferencing and distant learning providers should a significant number of students
wish to take them. If you would like to study something that isn’t in our list, please
write it below and we’ll look into it
Please look to provide:
Remember that we can only run subjects that we have a viable number of students wanting and able to study. If you don’t declare an interest now you might find your
preferred subjects do not get timetabled!
