Scope and Content
The Jonett Valentine Collection contains portions of various newspapers, many which
feature the Ice Storm of 1994, and a VHS of the Ice Storm of 1994; a book on
Cleveland’s History 1886-1986; Delta State related items such as a guide to the art
collection of the W.B. Roberts Library; inauguaration of Aubrey K. Lucas, DSU Alumni
newsletter dated May 1980 and alumni directories, a Delta Alpha Omega towel, which
was the precursor to Kappa Alpha Order, Delta Currents magazine which featured Delta
State’s 1996 homecoming; and various other brochures, maps and miscellaneous items.
It contains a pictorial history of the governor’s mansion, and a book of the history of
Mississippi libraries. It also contains pageants put on by the Delta State Teachers
College Department of Physical Education Program by Miss Ethel Cain, as well as,
teachers public grade school workbooks that belonged to Mrs. Frieda Claussen Sanford,
mother of Mrs. Jonett Valentine. A small portion of the collection contains clippings and
programs of the early years of the Peavine Awards.
