Champion and Reserve Champion ribbons and trophies will be awarded. A high point award will also be awarded, based on the combination of points in both English and western classes open to all age divisions. Any day end ties will be broke by the placing in the fitting and showmanship class. The exhibitor placing the highest in Fitting & Showmanship will be the Champion. Pointes to be accumulated on a one horse/one rider combination. Exhibitors must show in at least 2 shows to be eligible for year end awards. Day end points must be declared at the start of the show, i.e. Western or English. If you don’t tell the secretary, attire worn in fitting & show will determine the seat pointed. Vermont Horseman’s Association 2013 horse show class list Dates: June 8 July 20 August 10 No martingales, tie-downs, hackamores, dropped nosebands or draw reins will be allowed. No leg protectors allowed, with the exception of Western reining, or jumping. No chaps allowed in Equitation classes. Proper attire will be expected in the show ring. Helmets are encouraged to be worn in Western classes. Hunt Jackets excused by the judge only on warm days. All horses must have a 2014 coggins test and rabies shot to be shown. NO DOGS ALLOWED ON THE SHOW GROUNDS. The decisions of the judge and show committee are final. Any questions please bring them to the announcer’s booth. The show committee reserves the right to cancel or combine classes with insufficient entries. There will be no unannounced changes in the order of the class list. VHA members pride themselves and the overall organization on professionalism. Please respect others, and use SPORTSMANSHIP at all times. Any display of un-sportsman like conduct and/or mistreatment of horses in the arena, will be considered an automatic disqualification for that class. If conduct persists the Horse Show Chairman reserves the right to disqualify that person for the remainder of the show/shows and have them removed from the grounds. DESCRIPTION OF CLASSES Fitting and Showmanship: To be judged in hand. Judging to be done on showmanship of exhibitor and horse. To be shown at a standing position, walking, trot/jog, may be asked to back and do any variation of spins, at the judges discretion. Judging will also include fitting evidence by grooming and conditioning. Conformation not to count. Leadline: Open to riders 6 years of age and under. Horses will be lead by an assistant. Exhibitors will be judged at a walk both ways of the ring. To trot/jog individually. Rider judged on seat and general appearance. Equitation: To be judged at a walk, jog/trot, (canter/ lope for appropriate divisions) both directions of the ring. Rider will be judged on hands, seat and ability to handle mount. Exhibitors may be asked to back their horses. Diagonals in the English classes will count. Patterns are optional and at the decision of the judge. Pleasure: To be judged at a walk, Jog/Trot, (Canter/lope for appropriate divisions) both directions of the ring. Horses are to be shown on a relaxed rein. (But manageable, reins should not be so loose as to cause harm to rider, horse or other riders) To be judged at the ability to give a good ride, with emphasis on manners and gaits. All horses will be asked to back. Smooth Flying Lead changes will place over simple lead changes. Disqualification will be breaking of posted pattern, use of two hands on reins, holding saddle horn. English Pattern Class: Open to Junior, Senior and Adult riders only. Pattern to be posted day of show. Smooth Flying Lead changes will place over simple lead changes. Diagonals will count, as well as excessive speed. Disqualification will be breaking of posted pattern. Beginner pairs class: To be shown as a pair, at a walk, trot/Jog, both directions of the ring. Performance, quality, manners and similarity as a pair to be considered in placing of class. Open Pairs Class: Judged at a walk, trot/jog, canter/lope both directions of the ring. Performance, quality, manners and similarity as a pair to be considered in placing of class. Beginner Fun Class: Instructions to be announced day of show, example class is egg and spoon, with fun the emphasis, but safe is first, this is an elimination class. To be shown at a walk, trot/jog both directions of the ring. Western Road Hack Shown at a walk, jog, extended Jog, Lope and hand gallop with control both directions of the ring. Excessive speed at a hand gallop will be penalized. Need to stand quietly and back readily when asked. Must change from any gait to a flat footed walk when asked. To be judged on performance, manners, suitability to task, substance, and conformation. No more than 8 horses to hand gallop at a time. English Road Hack: Shown at a walk, trot, extended trot, canter and hand gallop with control both directions of the ring. Excessive speed at a hand gallop will be penalized. Need to stand quietly and back readily when asked. Must change from any gait to a flat footed walk when asked. To be judged on performance, manners, suitability to task, substance, and conformation. No more than 8 horses to hand gallop at a time. *Both Memorial Classes are based on 7 shows; 3 VHA shows: 3 Red and White booster Club Shows: and the Pond Hill Stables Open Show. Open to Junior, Senior and Adult riders only. For year end points accumulations. English or Western tack may be used in either class, points toward year end awards will be accumulated no matter what seat you ride. Eight Places will be given in each class. Any further questions beyond the listed rules will refer to the USEA rules as per that class. Harry O’Rourke Memorial Pleasure Futurity Class*: All horses will be under the age of 5 years, with dates of birth being in the year of 2009 or later. Class will be judged at a walk, trot/jog; canter/lope both directions of the ring. The class will be judged as a pleasure class. Horses to be shown on a loose rein or on the buckle. Horses will be asked to back. Open to Junior, Senior, Adult riders only. In case of a tie in year end points. The highest placing rider at the Pond Hill Stables show will win. Josephine O’Rourke Memorial Challenge Class: This class is to showcase the best all around rider in 4 shows. Classes will vary at each show.
