SCRIPT FOR TOASTMASTER OF THE DAY Good morning President, fellow toastmasters and honored guests. It is my privilege and pleasure to welcome you to Nanyang Brasstacks Toastmasters Club. I’d also like to extend the SCE, NTU welcome to some of our special guests who are here to join us today. They are Toastmaster Raymond Ho and Toastmaster Pan Heng. Not a stranger to Nanyang Brasstacks is CTM Jacob Gan who enthusiastically joins us from NBS Club, this afternoon. There are 2 main parts of our Toastmasters club meeting. Firstly, The Table Topics Session, where members can practise their “Thinking and Speaking on their feet” skills. This session is also known as the Impromptu Speech section. In Part 2, which is the Prepared Speech session, we have members who will be delivering speeches based on the 10 projects from the basic Communication & Leadership Manual. In addition, As well as 2 speakers who will be presenting their Advanced Projects. As Toastmaster of the Day, it is my duty to introduce the appointment holders who will assist in the running of today’s programme. TIMER To keep track of the time spent by each speaker, we have a Timer and he is Toastmaster Pan Heng. To handle the administrative and logistics matters we have our very own Sergeant-At-Arms for today’s meeting. He is Toastmaster Gong Ruibin. Now this is the moment that all of us are waiting for, the “Table Topics” session. This is the “Impromptu speaking” session. Pl volunteer yourself for this speech. The time allocated for each speaker is 2 minutes. At the 1st minute, the green lights will be switched on by the timer. At 1 min 30 sec, the amber light will be switched on and at 2 minutes, the red light will be shown. The buzzer will be activated at 2 mins 30 secs. To make the session more challenging each member or guest is provided with a voting slip. To qualify for a voting, the participant must speak for a t least 1 minute and not more than 2 mins 30 secs. At the end of the session you will be casing your vote and the Sergeant At arms will collect your voting slip from you. So do take up the challenge and speak. [SECOND SESSION begins] Let us continue with the second session of today’s meeting. As mentioned earlier for today we have speakers who are presenting from their basic Communication and Leadership Manual and the Advanced Manuals. For today’s meeting Nanyang Brasstacks is proud to feature 6 fellow Toastmasters who will be delivering their prepared speeches. FIRST SPEAKER The first speaker for this session will be doing Project 1 – which is the Ice Breaker. The Objectives for the project are to begin speaking before an audience, understand which areas require particular emphasis in a speech and to introduce oneself to Club members. To evaluate this project we have Toastmaster Tian Feng. To present this project we have Toastmaster Annalisa Tan. SECOND SPEAKER The second speaker for this session will be doing Project 3 – which is Organize Your Speech. The Objectives for the project are to organize your thoughts into a logical sequence that leads to a clearly defined goal. The Speech outline should contain an opening, body and a conclusion. I will be evaluating this project. To present this project we have Toastmaster Tian Feng. THIRD SPEAKER For this session, I will be doing Project 4 – which is To Show What You Mean. The objectives for this project are To learn the value of gestures and body movements as part of the speech, To explore the different ways of using body language, to develop a sense of timing and natural smooth body movement. To evaluate this project we have Toastmaster Raymond Ho. To present this project would be myself, Nimmi Jayathurai. 2 FOURTH SPEAKER The fourth speaker for this session will be doing Project 8 – which is Add Impact to your Speech. The objectives for this project are To learn the value of props in speaking and to use props effectively in presentations. To evaluate this project we have Jacob Gan CTM. To present this project would be TM Raymond Ho. FIFTH SPEAKER The fifth speaker for this session will be doing the Competent Leader project. The title of the speech would be Meeting Roles and Responsibilities. To evaluate this project we have Charles Graham CTM. To present this project would be Anil Pathak CTM. SIXTH SPEAKER The sixth speaker for this session will be doing Advanced Project (AP1) – which is 'Speaking to Inform' from the Advanced Communication and Leadership Program manual The objectives for this project are: Select new and useful information to present to the audience Organise the information for easy understandability and retention Present the information in a way that will help motivate the audience to learn The title of my speech with be "Learn how to fly". To evaluate this project we have Khong Chooi Peng DTM AL. To present this project would be Charles Graham CTM. Before we cast our vote for the Best Prepared Speech let is have The timer’s Report.
