User’s Guide of microwave unit Uomo-01/150-“O-CNT "
for disinfection of medical waste
1. Safety Requirements
1.1 The MW unit does not contain toxic, explosive, radioactive and flammable materials
and components. Sensitizer is a concentrated liquid detergent (soap) and has unlimited shelf life.
It is included with the MW unit. Total work time of the MW unit shouldn’t exceed 10 hours in the
day, with breaks at least 20 minutes between loads.
Permanent workplaces for staff could be organized at a distance of not less than 1,5 m
from the front panel of the MW unit.
1.2 Do not switch on the MW unit when it is empty. Floor in front of the MW unit must
be covered with a dielectric pad. It is recommended to unplug the power cord from the wall outlet,
or put pot with water (at least 2 liters) without a lid in a working chamber, when MW unit is not
used. Water is safe to absorb microwave energy, if you accidentally turn on the MW unit.
1.3 Do not dry clothes in the MW unit, which may be charred and ignited if you heat it
too long. Do not use MW unit for heating food and various fluids and materials, including
flammable. Do not overload tanks, do not put in wooden trim and shavings, as well as steel scrap
metal - office keys, paper clips, bolts, nuts. These items can quickly overheat and become a
source of ignition in the tanks.
1.4 Use special rubber gloves to retrieve the processed tanks from the working chamber.
1.5 It is not recommended if service personnel keeps running MW unit unattended. It is
recommended to open the door and make sure that there is no smell of smoke and overheat tanks

after 10-15 minutes of work. That will protect you from troubles in case if you forget to fill in the
tanks with sensitizing solution.
1.6 In case of smoke, quickly open the cell door and remove the tanks from the working
chamber to the floor space, turn the knob “TIME” on the control panel, or unplug the power cord
from the electrical outlet, immediately unplug the power cord of exhaust fan that will make flame
extinguished without supply of air .
Open lids of tanks if there is ignition in the tanks, fill them with water or use of fire
extinguisher;
If necessary, load tanks again in the working chamber, making sure that each tank has at
least 1.5 liters of liquid. Close the door and turn on the MW unit, setting the necessary time for
further processing.
1.7 Do not block with any extraneous objects perforated holes located on the front, rear
and side walls of the MW unit for air passage.
For this purpose it is recommended not to move up the MW unit close to the wall, and
keep the distance between them not less than 100 mm.
1.8 So not turn down the petals around the perimeter of the inner surface of the door
when washing and wiping the inner surface of the door,. That you will keep unchanged the
electrical tuning of the camera.
1.9 Keep the surface of the tank clean - emerging brown spots should be scraped (any
cutting tool) or an abrasive and rubbed with alcohol. In this manner the life of the tank will be 80100 loading cycles. Periodically wash a working chamber and wipe it dry. Do not let the
appearance of dark spots on the surface of protective plastic caps (on the left and right internal
walls of the chamber), which cover the entrances of microwave energy into the chamber. Clean
these spots and wipe them with alcohol, otherwise they can lead to scorching of protective covers.
It is recommended to handle internal and external surfaces of the MW unit with
disinfectants at least once a day.
1.10 It should be remembered that the MW unit can handle one or two tanks. But this
requires different amounts of microwave energy and the sensitizer solution.

2 Preparation to work
2.1 Prepare a sensitizer solution in separate small capacity

unbreakable vessel (for 2 liters of hot tap water add 1 tablespoon of
sensitizer that comes in cans along with the MW unit) and mix it. (Pic. 1)
It is recommended to prepare the solution immediately before use and
store the vessel well closed.
2.2 Open the cell door by pressing the button at the bottom of
the control panel and make sure that chamber does not contain foreign
objects, and it is clean. Close the door of the chamber.
2.3 Plug the power cord and install exhaust fan outlet.

3. Simultaneous processing of two tanks with waste
3.1 Open the lid of the two empty cans, and put polypropylene
bags with a colored stripe (yellow or red) in each tank, corresponding to
the class of waste being treated. (Pic. 2) The upper edge of the package
must to bend the edges of the tank.
3.2 Pour 200 - 300 ml sensitizer at the bottom of the bag. (Pic.
3)

3.3. Fill each bag, avoiding pressure and tossing it to 2/3 the
volume of medical waste (cotton, gauze, textile waste, plastic, liquid
waste (not more than 3 liters per load), with paper, except for metal, metal
and soot containing materials). (Pic. 4)
3.4 Collect metal and soot containing waste (tools, syringes,
needles, feathers, etc., soot filled polymer caps) puncture-proof in a
separate container. Standard load of container - 50% of its volume, the
upper layer of waste sho uld be without the formation of hillocks and
sticking tools.

3.5 Fill a container with such waste with sensitizer solution so
that all the metal parts would be covered with liquid, then cover your
container.
3.6 Pour into each package, uniformly irrigating waste area, 1,3
± 0,1 l of sensitizer solution.

3.7 The container with metal and soot containing waste must be
placed at the center of the upper part of the package in the last turn so that it

is not rolled over when loading the tank into the MW unit camera. (Pic. 5) It
is recommended to load the tank with not more than one such container.
3.8 Glue on two opposite sides of the inner upper part of the
package at the inner top edge of the tank test indicator "Farmatest-Vinar"110/10, and without tying or sealing the package, gather the edges bent over
the tank to top part of the package and cover it. Then pour the rest of the
sensitizer solution (200-250ml) directly into the tank (Pic. 6) and close the
tanks with special white covers, fitted with a filter (resource of filter - 1000-

1100 work cycles). (Pic. 7)
3.9 Lift and carry loaded containers in an upright position holding
them for two handles, keeping in mind that the container with metal waste
should not spill. Place tanks in the center of the working chamber installed
close to each other, make sure the tanks did not touch the side walls of the
chamber and close the cell door.
3.10 Turn on the upper hand "POWER" on the control panel to the

right in a clockwise direction to “maximum” position.
Then turn right lower knob "TIME" and set it right in a clockwise
direction to the 40 (45) minutes. After this two indicator lamps above the
control panel should light on, indicating the normal operation of the MW
unit.
After the heating time a beep will emit and the MW unit shuts
down, the handle "TIME" will return to its original position.
After the tone, set the power knob into position "600" and turn this power with the
handle "TIME" for another 30 min. Total time of processing of waste should not be less than 60
minutes.
3.11 After the second sound signal indicates the end of processing waste, it is preferable
to leave the tanks in the chamber when the door is closed for 10-15 minutes, as the camera is
covered with insulation material and it will keep the tanks warm;
3.12 Open the door upon the expiration of a holding time, put on protective gloves,
remove treated tanks from the cell and lower them on the floor space.
Then open the tank lid, make sure that the test-indicators (at least one of the two) has

changed its color to purple, the appropriate color standard (see instructions for test-indicators
"Farmatest-Vinar” № 154.070.2003 PI). Glue this indicator in the logbook of the MW unit, tie the
bags of decontaminated waste and remove them from the tanks.
Reload of the camera and the turning on of the MW unit may be carried out not earlier
than 20 minutes after its automatic shutdown in the previous processing cycle.
3.13 Prepare bags for export from the medical establishment.
4 Mode of processing a single tank of waste.
4.1 When processing a single tank of waste add from 2,5 to 3 liters of solution sensitizer
in a bag. Set tank in the center of the chamber and process it at a power level "600" with 60
minutes processing time.
All other steps of the decontamination process are identical to the simultaneous
processing of two tanks with waste.
