Research Services
Source Sheet No. 39
The Council’s Archives does not have the resources, nor is it really the role of an Archives, to undertake detailed
historical research in response to public enquiries. While we will provide you with assistance in identifying,
requesting and copying archival records relevant to your research interests or projects, we are not able to carry out
research on the records for you. Generally help is limited to preparing source analyses aimed at selecting the most
appropriate records for you to use, and devising search strategies advising you on how you might go about tackling
your particular project.
In cases where substantial or ongoing research is required we recommend you visit the Archives to carry out your
own research in person. Where this is not possible our policy is to refer enquirers to consultant historians or specialist
researchers who may be engaged to undertake research on a fee for service basis.
The organisations and individuals listed below are generally available for short-term or longer-term research work.
Enquiries regarding projects and negotiations of fees and terms of engagement should be made direct with the service
provider. The Archives makes no recommendations or endorsements as to the skills or competence of those listed,
nor does it accept any responsibility for work that may be performed by them on your behalf.
