Descendants of Michael O'Donnell, Sr.
Generation No. 1
1. MICHAEL1 O'DONNELL, SR. was born Abt. 1815 in Ireland, and died May 10, 1881 in Indianolia,
Red Willow County, Nebraska. He married ANN BOYLE April 1851 in Holy Family Church, Auburn,
New York. She was born Abt. 1820 in Ireland.
Notes for MICHAEL O'DONNELL, SR.:
1860 Federal Census has Michael residing in East Bloomfield in the County of Ontario, NY.
1870 Federal Census has Michael, Ann & child Thomas living in the Town of Fenner, Madison
Co. NY
Deed- Town of Fenner, Madison Co. Liber 119 page 528 Recorded 12 March 1870 at 2 o'clock.
Parts of deed:
On the ninth day of March 1870 James White sold to Michael O'Donnell of the Town of Lenox,
$300.00 for lot #30 on the mile strip beginning at the southwest corner of the lands owned by
Arrin Ransom. Thence north of said Ransom's west line to the centre of said highway. Thence
southerly in the centre of said highway to the north line of lands belonging to A. Annas. Thence
east of the corner of said Arrin Ransom's land and the place beginning containing two acres of
land be the same more or less being the same piece of land conveyed by Isael A. Annas & wife
to said White subject, however to a certain mortgage now on said premise on which there is due
to become due the sum of $250.00 plus interest.
(This lot was sold by quit claim 10/4/1893 filed 2/16/1915 by son Michael J. and wife Ann
O'Donnell of East Syracuse)
East Bloomfield in Ontario Co., just outside of Canandaigua, was not in Fishers NY, but near
there. Town of Fenner is next to Perryville.
Great Aunt Mary Kinney- O'Donnell's Forget Me Not story was in part:
"Our Grandpa O'Donnell (Michael Sr.) had a small farm at Fisher's NY. Half way between
Rochester & Canandaigua. It was at the Canandaigua Court House the our father and said his
father enlisted for the Civil War, where he served under Capt. Parker in the Heavy Artillery.
When Grandpa O'D and Grandma (Anne) were first married, they lived in Williamsport Pa where
our father was born (Michael Jr.) They moved to Perryville before Michael Jr. was 7."
I believe this information to be mostly Great Aunt Mary's imagination mixed with some facts.
Several Affidavit for/from Michael O'Donnell's pension papers:
State of Nebraska
County of Red Willow
F.M. Pennington knew Michael O'Donnell and indicated that he was with the Railroad. At the
time of his death of lung fever he had been living there.

Notes for ANN BOYLE:
1860 Federal Census has the O'Donnell family with a James Howe age 9, born Abt. 1851. He
appears to be Ann's brother or possibly son if she were to have been married prior to the
marriage to Michael O'Donnell. Or possibly Ann's name was Howe and the pension papers that
were completed had the wrong name. There is confusion surrounding Ann and Michael that
needs to be further researched.
Ann and son Michael J. O'Donnell of E. Syracuse, NY sold property in Fenner NY (Liber 244
page 252) to Gaynor Duffy by way of quit claim. (Quit Claim Deed) Dated 4 October 1893
recorded 16 Feb 1915 at 9:30 am

Artillery originally the 9th NYH Art'y Co. L., They were married in Auburn, NY by Father
O'Flaherty. A Rev. W. J. Seymour searched the church's record at Holy Family Church in which

1920 Federal Census has Michael & Mary living in East Syracuse, Dewitt Township with son
Laurence, age 24 and single. Michael was a merchant, Retail Grocery. He owned his home.
Michael's granddaughters Mary O'D Montague and Anne O'D Clark recall Grandpa O'Donnell's
wake at his home on Yates St. in East Syracuse. There was a long black leather sofa in the front
parlor where the 4 girls were lined up and seated. Greeting friends and family was Peter Daly
(also a relative) an undertaker. Peter had the habit of rubbing and wringing his hands together in
a hand washing motion which caused a giggling reaction for Mary, Anne, Elizabeth and Jeanne,
much to the dismay of their mother Florence O'Donnell. His son Edward recalled that during the
last day when his father was failing, that Pa said it was time to call Pete Daly.

East Syracuse, New York, and died November 25, 1978 in 100 Robineau Rd. Syracuse, New
York. He married FLORENCE VERONICA FEENEY June 15, 1920 in Most Holy Rosary Church,
Syracuse New York, daughter of JOHN FEENEY and KATHERINE O'NEILL. She was born December
07, 1891 in Syracuse, New York, and died September 02, 1980 in 100 Robineau Rd. Syracuse,
New York.
Notes for EDWARD MALACHI O'DONNELL, SR.:
Edward shortly after marriage to Florence moved to Williamsport, PA to run a Franklin Dealership
(which he may have owned). Florence became very homesick and moved back to Syracuse
shortly after the birth of her first child Mary. Edward sold the dealership and quickly moved back
to Syracuse, when Florence refused to move back to Williamsville due to home sickness. He
worked several more years with a Syracuse Franklin dealership then he bought into a Ford
Dealership which he ran for many years. Edward was very involved in the stock market in the late
1920's about the time that the stock market crashed. While Edward did lose money in the crash,
he had several other sources of income. In later years Edward owned large blocks of properties
in the downtown Syracuse area just west of Clinton St. There he held not only his auto
dealership enterprise but several large warehouses which he used himself for his appliance
business and leased the remaining space. About 1955 Edward sold his Ford dealership to
concentrate on his Carrier heating & air conditioning distributorship.
1936 Syracuse Directory Listed:
O'Donnell- Edward M. (Florence) Gen. Mgr. 218 Harrison, h. 100 Robineau
Edward was injured as attempting to cross the street on Geddes St. in front of his in-laws the
Feeney's, after placing his young daughter Mary in the car. He was quite bruised and sore.
Mary has vivid memories of him being hurt but seems to recall that he was able to drive home
where Florence called the doctor. Another accident Edward had was in a Franklin Coupe in the
1930's. At the corner of Crossett and Roberts Ave a car hit Edwards car and the car flipped over.
The girls were playing on the porch and called to their mother that there was an accident,
Florence ran down the street to help Edward who was then taken to the hospital.

Military service: World War I veteran
Notes for FLORENCE VERONICA FEENEY:
Florence Feeney was baptized in St. Lucy's Church on Gifford Street, Syracuse, NY.
Florence graduated from Central High School in Syracuse, New York Walking to school
Florence would look into the windows along Onondaga Street which was at that time high society,
somehow knowing that she would be a part of that life someday. Florence at times seemed
uncomfortable with her poor beginnings but never failed to help the less fortunate during the dark
years of the depression which the O'Donnell family was fortunate enough to have actually
prospered due to husband Edward's uncanny sense of when the time was right to make a deal.
Florence has a great presence and appearances were important to her. It was unheard of for
Florence to come downstairs in the morning not fully dressed with her pearls. She was a wife
that was an extension to her husband. Edward saw to it that Florence was taken care of and
pampered. Edward and Florence were truly a couple that loved and respected each other
throughout their married lives.
When her son Edward M. Jr. was born she had the head OB nurse, Mary Perkins from Crouse
hospital, stay with them for 6 weeks, she also had a live in housekeeper; Mrs. Margaret Jones
an woman that came in twice a week for cleaning and another woman coming in once a week for
laundry. She and her husband were always opening up their home for one social occasion or
another.
Most likely Florence was the drive behind Edward's success in his multiple and varied business
ventures.

Bill moved to in Bowling Green Kentucky 1978. He is a professor @ Western Kentucky
University and has a private practice. Bill was also NASP president 1996-1997.
First Communion May 16, 1954.
Most Holy Rosary 1st - High school
Bachelor Degree St. Bonaventure Olean, NY 1969
Master Degree St. Bonaventure
Doctorate Rutgers University Piscataway, NJ
Bill originally went to St. Bonaventure to study chemistry but found he really liked psychology,
and was not doing well in chemistry. He also likes teaching and seems to gravitate to smaller
towns. He was a paperboy as a child, worked construction summers, sold encyclopedias door
to door, while in college worked at a local radio station in Olean. He joined the Olean Vol. Fire
Dept. During the time he lived in Olean he was elected to the President NYS Board of
Psychologists, that is where he first started thinking about getting his doctorate at Rutgers. With
2 young kids it was a very risky endeavor at best, but the opportunity was too good to pass up.
Upon graduating from Rutgers he found a position at Western State University in Bowling Green
KY was just what he was looking for.
1999 Christmas letter:
Bill writes a monthly column on technology for NASP newsletter and has been appointed Web
master of their web site. He has become trained as a member of the National Emergency
Assistance Team which can be called for emergencies and crisis situations primarily involving
schools/students. He has been on alert several times but not called as of yet. He has been on
TV a lot and has done many media interviews due to the recent school shootings. He is involved
in training other mental health professionals in how to respond to trauma.
In the summer of 1999 Bill, Ginny, Brian & Katie traveled to Europe for 3 weeks. Brussels
Belgium, Netherlands, Germany, Switzerland, (a conference for Bill at Lake Constance on the
border of Germany & Switzerland) Budapest, Vienna & Salzburg Austria. Much of the travel was
done by train and they were fortunate enough to view the total eclipse of the sun on August 11,
1999 in Salzburg Austria.

Notes for VIRGINIA ANNE PASKO:
1999 Christmas letter:
Ginny teaches part time at Western Kentucky University in the psychology department and is in
the middle of a law suit against the University for reverse discrimination. This started 1998. She
applied for a full time teaching position at WKU community college and was the unanimous top
choice of the search committee but the job went to a black male with virtually no teaching
experience. She was told in writing that he was hired because they had no black faculty for the
community college that has a 20% minority ratio. Ginny spent the spring of 99 on a training
project to certify workers in adult day care centers.

ROBERT MICHAEL RICKERT September 11, 1976 in St. Ann's Church, Syracuse, New York, son of
LEONARD RICKERT and PATRICIA CAVENY. He was born October 17, 1952 in Syracuse, New York.
Notes for KRISTEN ANNE PFOHL:
First Communion May 1961. Did not make the First Communion with the other classmates
because of coming down with the Mumps. Mary Collins, an across the street neighbor, also had
the Mumps. There were a handful of other classmates that had a special First Communion but
they all had the Chicken Pox which were going around at the time.
We had a beautiful dog named Dusty, he adopted our family and had a hurt paw which Dad
cleaned and bandaged, Dusty's original owners were found but Dusty kept running away from
them and finding himself back to the Pfohl kids. They let us keep him. He looked like a collie
with the short hair of a Shepard. The Vet though he was a wonderful mix as did we, RinTinTin
and Lassie all rolled into one beautiful dog....ours!!! As a teenager I had a dog Freddie, Freddie
was blind in one eye and was born in a bar. My girlfriend Holly's mother would not let her keep
him so she brought him up to the Pfohl's where she knew he would not be turned away. We also
we had many smaller animals, snakes, hamsters, mice, parakeets, horned toads. Our Parakeet
Al was a bird that liked to drink....rye and water with ice!!!! He would sit on the rim of the glass
and get plastered. One time he had his fill and went and perched on Great Aunt Grace's hat
squawking and flapping his wings. Another time Al got out of the house (he frequently had run of
the house) and a neighbor up the street (Jerry Jones) knew we had lost Al (everyone in the
neighborhood knew of Al) called Dad and told him that he was in his garage. Al was so scared
he wouldn't come when dad whistled BUT when he asked Jerry to get a glass of ice water and
clinked the ice, Al came a flying. We had several other birds after Al but none as personable as
he. Unfortunately I was allergic to cats, dad and mom didn't particularly like cats so when I was
young we didn't have them. While mom didn't really care one way or the other about having
animals around, dad loved animals and had said he would have liked to have been a
Veterinarian. When I was older another stray won our hearts, a big beautiful grey striped tiger.
The dog Fred kept chasing the cat away but the cat kept coming back. Fred never seemed to
really want to hurt the cat but would chase it under the car almost for a week. I knew he was
going to be ours when I came down stair one morning and the cat was curled up on dad's lap and
he was mumbling about getting some food for the flea bag, as Charlie the cat purred and rubbed
his whiskers on dad's arm. He got along fine with the hamsters and even Freddy came around.
After Dad died and mom moved to an apartment, Charlie was very unhappy and missed Dad
terribly, he didn't like the apartment and would end up at the house where the new owners had to
call mom. Susan finally took him in but old age and most likely stress did him in with a stroke.
He was a good cat and perfect for a non-cat loving family.

Met husband Robert in 1970 at Corcoran HS out in the smoking area of the school (quit smoking
in 1977). Bob taught me how to drive, and I passed my drivers test the first time. High School
was had for me, not liking the structure of the classroom. Some how I felt lost in the large crowd
of kids and not fitting in. I found myself skipping classes regularly. I was fortunate enough to
have a good enough basic learning and was able to graduate. I did not learn the value of an
education until much later. I had several odd jobs prior to banking- raising hamsters to sell to
local pet store. Took groups out horse back riding at Velasko Stables for several years.
Developed new born baby pictures in hospital for photography studio in Syracuse. Aunt Mary
Montague was the photographer and had a dark room set up in her basement at 501 Winkworth
to develop the pictures. I also worked at Christ the King Retreat House on Brookford Rd in
Syracuse. NYS Fair in a food stand, the Main Gate Oasis owned by the Murphy's. Bought my
first car in 1974- fawn gold 2 door 1974 Dodge Charger. Rented a 2 room apt. on the north
side of Syracuse, 707 Kirkpatrick St. for $125 a month, included everything. The woman who
owned the house lived downstairs with her grandmother. After getting married we moved in the
cramped quarters for several years. 1979 moved to 8066 Bamm Hollow Rd Clay, sold in 1995
moved into apartment until 1996 when we moved to 6067 Owlwood Dr in Cicero NY after having
the house built. I am an avid reader, relaxes with needlework and in 1997 became addicted to
the genealogy of the family. Plays golf occasionally, loves the water.
