CLOTHING AND FOOTWEAR PATAGONIA & CAPE HORN Adventure Sailing Expedition with Team Mowbray Pty Ltd The following quantities/type of clothing should be used as a guide only. It is the guest’s responsibility to be suitably prepared. We suggest you plan to wear some of your clothing en route to South America to keep packed baggage to a reasonable level. If you have ever been snow skiing then you can use this as a reference point when thinking about clothing type etc. We suggest you don’t rush out and buy expensive clothing. Ask around and you will be amazed at how many family or friends have snow ski or adventure type clothes or similar in their wardrobe that they might be only too happy to lend We don’t have a Laundromat on board however you can rinse and dry clothes on board The following quantities of clothing should be used as a guide. It is the guest’s responsibility to be suitably prepared for the length trip they have chosen. This list is generally suitable for a 14 day trip so guests should add or subtract amounts depending on the length of trip they have chosen In general terms a four layered system is reliable: Layer #1 - Thin light weight thermals long legs and sleeves Layer #2 - A medium thickness layer consisting of clothing similar in weight to track pants and a medium weight long sleeved thermal top, flannelette shirt, skivvy or similar Layer #3 - The thickest layer with pants similar to snow ski pants, thicker woollen jumper, specialised thermal zip up windcheater etc. Layer #4 - Wet weather jacket & pants to provide water & snow proof outer shell supplied on loan by Team Mowbray. The wet weather gear is intended to be worn whilst sailing as well as ashore for short walks only. You may wish to bring a lightweight waterproof set of outer shell protective pants & jacket if you intend to spend longer periods of time ashore Head, Hands, Feet and Eyes A disproportionate amount of body heat is lost through the head plus the extremities of the body (hands and feet) are usually affected first by cold. It is important to have suitable quantities and quality of protective foot, hand and head wear. You should try to have them ankle height to minimise snow, slush or water to flow over the top of the boot. You should also bring a pair of sailing type “deck shoes” or joggers and/or “Ugh” boots/slippers for walking around below decks. The cabin floor will be damp at times and bare socks will get wet.
