All submissions must be emailed or postmarked by ___________.
illuminations is an annual journal that publishes literary non-fiction, fiction, poetry, and art work. Submission by a single
author for each issue of the journal should not exceed two pieces of prose and three poems. Prose manuscripts should
not exceed 2,500 words. Contributors must be currently enrolled at Houston Community College, Southwest College.
Electronic Submissions
Hard-Copy Submissions
 This is the preferred method of submission.
 Submit Microsoft Word files via email attachment.
 Each submission should be attached as a separate file
and addressed to the appropriate editor (fiction, nonfiction, poetry, art).
 Manuscripts must be paginated and clearly labeled with
the author’s name on every page.
 Contributors will receive email notification in early
___________ of acceptance or denial.

 Submissions must be typed, double-spaced, on 8.5 by
11-inch paper. Do not use italic “script” typefaces.
 Submit a media device with Microsoft Word files of each
work.
 Manuscripts must be paginated and clearly labeled with
the author’s name on every page.
 Do not send the only copy of your work.
 Contributors desiring replies must include 2 selfaddressed, stamped envelopes: (1) to acknowledge
receipt of manuscript; and (2) to inform about
acceptance or denial, which will be sent in early

Submissions by fax will not be accepted.

Biographical Information

Include a photo of yourself for possible publication in the journal. We can arrange with you to take the photo if you do not
have one that can be sent via email or on a disk.

work in the illuminations journal. By granting illuminations permission to use my work, I agree that my
submitted manuscript(s) or artwork is entirely my work (no plagiarism or corroboration) and I also hold
