INTRODUCTION TO INTERNAL AUDITING - NQF LEVEL 6 Join us on the West Campus for our evening class – Introduction to Internal Auditing is offered over 14 weeks in two hour weekly sessions in the evening from 17h30 – 19h30. The course is offered at the University of the Witwatersrand, (West Campus) Johannesburg in lecture/seminar format with Wits financial specialist lecturers, and invited guest lecturers from the diverse financial markets, guiding you through the programme. OBJECTIVE OF THIS COURSE To provide participants with an overview of the basic philosophy, concepts and principles underlying the practice of Internal Auditing. WHO WILL BENEFIT FROM THIS COURSE? This introductory course is intended for people who are interested in Internal Auditing, and inform those who wish to pursue a career as Internal Auditors, or those who work with Internal Auditors in their present positions. Individuals and managers, who are expected to perform internal auditing tasks, also require a background in Internal Auditing. COMMENCEMENT DATE Semester 1: Wednesday, February 2016 Semester 2: Wednesday, July 2016 Detailed course outlines will be given to participants in the first lecture. SYLLABUS The emerging role of the Internal Auditing profession Ethics, standards, and codes relevant to the profession Internal versus External Auditors Managing ethics Laws and regulations of the profession Types of Internal Audit practice Engagement planning Gathering of appropriate Internal Audit evidence Risk assessment Control frameworks The course is limited to 60 participants, and a minimum registration of 10 students is needed to offer this course. ENTRY REQUIREMENTS Tertiary qualification in either Accounting, Law, Auditing or a related field. ASSESSMENT OF PERFORMANCE Attendance of at least 75% of classes is required for the participants to write the final examination. A pass mark of at least 50% in the course must be overall achieved in order to successfully complete this short course. A Sub-minimum of 40% must be obtained in the final examination in order for the participants to pass the course (Irrespective of the participants' final result). 1 WITS PLUS FEES & METHOD OF PAYMENT Cost fee: R8 450. The fees for all courses are the responsibility of the individual attending the course. All fees must be paid prior to registration. Payment can be made by electronic payment or bank deposits. You will then need to bring your original proof of payment to Registration day, dates provided on the acceptance letter. CANCELLATION OF COURSES Cancellation by a registrant more than 10 working days before the start date will result in liability for 25 % of the course fees Cancellation in less than 10 working days before the start date, will result in liability for 40 % of the course fees Cancellation after commencement of the course, will result in liability for 50% of the fees. Students who do not meet the requirements to continue in the 2nd half of a year course, will be refunded all fees paid in advance for that semester. ICAM fees and parking disk fees are not refundable. CAMPUS ACCESS All short course participants are issued with a Visitors Access Card at a cost of ±R140 and access to parking at a cost of approximately ±R270 which will give you access to swipe at the boom gates. You may park in student parking on the west campus. WHO ARE THE LECTURERS? The courses will be taught by Wits staff members in a small group environment in lectures and tutorials. Interactive discussion will be integral to these courses. The course will be lectured by high quality lecturers from the School of Economics and Business Sciences.
