Assignments include memos, letters, and short reports. Students will acquire basic computer skills, and will learn to proofread and edit their own texts. Assignments/Grading Criteria DOCUMENTS (50% of Grade-must successfully complete all documents) 1. COMPANY LETTERHEAD-Design a company letterhead for all document assignments. 2. MEMORANDUM- Prepare a memo using prescribed business formats. 3. BUSINESS FORM LETTER- Construct a formal business letter. 4. BUSINESS REPORT- Prepare a formal business report. 5. ACCIDENT REPORT- Prepare a formal accident report for an insurance claim. 6. LETTER OF EXPLANATION/DIRECTION- Prepare a letter explaining process or providing direction. 7. SCHEDULING LETTER- Prepare a scheduling letter showing tasks and sequence. 8. JOB RECRUITMENT LETTER- Prepare a position description letter for job recruitment. 9. PLANNING LETTER- Prepare a project planning letter explaining objective(s) and process. 10. EMPLOYEE DISCIPLINARY LETTER- Prepare an employee evaluation/corrective action letter. 11. BUSINESS FORM- Create a business form unique to you business. 12. BILLING/COLLECTIONS LETTER- Prepare a billing/collection notice for a past due account. Following instruction in each area, all documents will be completed in class on the computer, saved to a disk, printed and turned in for grading. Documents will be graded and returned for correction. Each document must be successfully completed for a final grade. ACTIVITIES: QUIZZES & TESTS (50% of the Grade-must complete all activities) 1. FINAL TEST Text & Materials Your textbook is available in the bookstore and you will need a dictionary for the class as well. Please bring both with you for every class session. You will also need two floppy disks to store your work in class done on the computer. Attendance If you are going to be absent for a class you must call in and let the instructor know and then make arrangements with him to make up the work you missed. A legitimate reason for absence will be counted as an excused absence as long as you make up the work you missed. Three unexcused absences or five absences (excused or unexcused) will require a conference with the instructor and could affect your class standing or continued enrollment in the class.
