Flux Acid Value Titration Kit
Description.
The Flux Acid Value Titration Kit comprises glassware and chemicals to enable
users to determine the Acid value for ‘No Clean’ VOC free and wave soldering
fluxes.

1 x 5ml pipette.
1 x Rubber pipette filler.
1 x 250ml conical flask.
1 x 1ltr 0.1M Sodium Hydroxide.
1 x 0.5ltr Phenolphthalein (1%) indicator solution.
1 x 20ml auto-fill burette with 1.2ltr bottle.

Insert the top of the 5ml pipette in to the bottom of the red pipette filler.
Depress ‘S’ whilst squeezing the red bulb.
Insert the end of the pipette in to the sample of Flux.
Depress ‘S’ until liquid is drawn up to just above the zero on the pipette.
Depress ‘E’ with the end of the pipette above the Flux until the liquid empties to
the zero mark.
Place the end of the pipette in the conical flask and depress ‘E’ until the pipette is
empty.
Depress ‘A’ to expel air from the pipette and remove and clean pipette.
Add 50ml of de-min water plus 5 drops of Phenolphthalein to the conical flask.
Fill the bottle of the auto-fill burette with 0.1m Sodium Hydroxide and replace the
burette.
Squeeze the bottle of the burette until the burette is full.
Titrate the Flux in the conical flask with the 0.1m Sodium Hydroxide by
squeezing the outlet valve while mixing continuously until solution turns pink.
Record the volume of 0.1m Sodium Hydroxide added in mls.
Interpretation of result.
Acid value = mls 0.1m Sodium Hydroxide in (12) x 5.61
5 x specific gravity @ 20°C of flux.
