Stanton Youth Boys Basketball Scholarship Guidelines Scholarship A scholarship will be awarded annually to a graduating senior(s) in the amount not to exceed $500.00 per scholarship payable to the individual attending junior college, four-year college/university or other accredited institution of higher education (see payment, below). Scholarship(s) will be awarded yearly if funds are available from the Stanton Community Club/Stanton Youth Development Committee/Stanton Youth Boys Basketball Funds. The amount of scholarship funds available will be determined by the Stanton Youth Development /Stanton Youth Boys Basketball Committee each year. Selection Committee & Criteria The Stanton Community Club/Youth Development Committee/Stanton Youth Boys Basketball Committee governs the award. The Awards Committee consists of Youth Development Committee members and Stanton Youth Boys Basketball Committee Chairpersons. Recommendations are approved by a majority vote of the Awards Committee. Strict confidence should be kept about amount of awards until the date of the award presentation – High School Commencement Exercises. Giving back to your community without expectation of return is a virtue this scholarship embodies. Those students who choose to participate as a coach, assistant coach or referee or have throughout the program given of their time, talent and knowledge of the game of basketball bestowing these attributes to the youth of Stanton. Each year of a students’ participation with the program will be considered. The Awards Committee may give extra consideration to students who show outstanding citizenship and participation in high school and community activities. Application Complete application(s) for Stanton Youth Boys Basketball Scholarship (enclosed below), participation in the Stanton Youth Youth Boys Basketball Program is a must to be considered. Eligible students ARE REQUIRED TO ATTEND A MANDATORY INTERVIEW with the Awards Committee part of consideration for scholarship award PRIOR TO April 1st of each year, Stanton Youth Development meetings are held EVERY 2 nd TUESDAY of EACH MONTH AT 7PM at Stanton VFW CLUB. The MANDATORY INTERVIEW WILL REQUIRE STUDENTS TO GIVE AN EXPLANATION OF WHY THEY PARTICIPATED IN SYBB, HOW THEY LEARNED BY PARTICIPATING IN SYBB, WHAT WERE THE POSITIVE & NEGATIVE EXPERIENCES OF SYBB? Eligible students will be notified through the SYBB Committee and the High School Guidance Counselor of the choice of winners of the scholarship. Student Eligibility 1) The student must be a graduating senior of the Stanton Community Schools or enrolled in a junior college, four-year college/university or other accredited institution of higher education for the next term following which this scholarship is awarded. 2) The student must have a minimum overall Grade Point Average of 2.5/4.0 at the end of the 7 th semester of his/her high school studies. 3) The applicant must be of good moral character and can not be convicted of a felony on or before the time of service consideration for scholarship. 4) The scholarship must be applied to undergraduate studies and is applicable to any field of study . Payment A check, not to exceed $500.00, will be issued directly to the candidate upon verification by the junior college, four-year college/university or other accredited institution of higher education that candidate/student is attending class for the second semester and is in good standing with his/her institution. Proof of attendance & good standing must be mailed or e-mailed to SYBB Scholarship Committee, POB 56 Stanton, NE 68779-0056 or e-mail: frombrad2u@stanton.net on or before February 15th of the college year (2nd Semester) attending in order for payment to be made to the student. Students not completing these requirements, see LOSS OF SCHOLARSHIP (below). Loss of Scholarship He/she will forfeit all claims to Stanton Youth Boys Basketball Scholarship without recourse. In the event no one meets the scholarship requirements or chooses to accept the scholarship; no scholarship will be awarded for the academic year. Scholarships will be awarded as finances of Stanton Youth Boys Basketball allow. If the recipient of this scholarship does not complete (any of the following): 1) Acceptance of scholarship, by not completing the REQUIRED INTERVIEW with the awards committee. 2) Failing to attend a junior college, four-year college/university or other accredited institution of high education. 3) Failing to provide to the Awards Committee 2 items required to receive benefit of award - verification of attendance and maintain as a student in good standing with the college of your choice - by February 15th of the current college school year attending for which the scholarship is awarded.
